Those of you who aren't poor as shit, you should look into the Ford Maverick Lobo. It is a fantastic, badass looking truck. Women will think it's sexy that you have a slick whip like that around your town. Trucks don't lose value as much as cases, so even if it's 35k or so, it'll hold value! The Ford Family Plan for all ends in a couple weeks, so go out and buy one before the price skyrockets!

It's not as bad as you think.
Let's say I wanted a XLT with the Luxury package, black appearance package, and 4k tow package. That's $38,235. A Lobo comes standard with the Luxury package, black appearance package, and the upgraded oil cooler and transmission cooler from the tow package, plus LED projector headlights from the Lariat, the lowering springs, and the cool wheels for $38,320. Barely $100 more. Of course that's a pretty specific spec and a pretty specific buyer for it. If I was going to spend a whopping 40k on a Maverick then I would just get a Lariat +4K for $39,925

It outsold the Ranger by a fucking lightyear. If it wasn’t for the retarded backup camera software recall it would have been a top ten selling model last year. What’s really astounding is that Ford only advertises the F150 and Bronco. Maverick is basically all word of mouth. And to top it off, the demand for a compact truck is obviously through the roof but no one has definite plans to compete with the Maverick.

Wrong.

First, there is not Ford HF50. There’s an HF45 and HF55 (which replaced the HF45 starting this year). Neither one is a CVT. They’re both eCVT. CVT and eCVT are not remotely the same operating principle.

The hybrid mavericks come with the HF55. The Loni comes with a re-programmed 8G (an 8-speed automatic but it’s skips second gear… or something.

An eCVT is a plenarary headset utilizing two differential inputs (a gas engine and an electric motor-generator in the case of a hybrid like the HF55) with a single output. A CVT works with a belt situated upon two variable diameter pulleys that expand or contract based on power demand.

CVT’s have a reputation for being a little on the unreliable side while eCVT’s are bomb-proof but only found on hybrid vehicles (so most people don’t even know what they are because “hybrid bad”).

>Ford only advertises the F150 and Bronco
I see them running Maverick ads here but they'll put the $400/mo Maverick beside the F-150 for $500/mo.

>the demand for a compact truck is obviously through the roof
How did you come to this conclusion? The Maverick sells like 120k units a year and the Santa Cruz sells around 50k. How is that demand "high" compared to selling 500k+ half tons a year? Yeah no shit nobody else wants to compete... That's economically retarded. The only reason why a manufacturer would ever put money into a small "truck" like this would be to boost their EPA average across their lineup. Most manufacturers find ways to skirt around that without wasting money on a new platform.

The Maverick is the C2 platform, so it shares a lot in common with the Bronco Sport and Escape, including build quality. It’s prices similarly to the Escape, which is priced similarly to the RAV4 and CR-V.

That’s how much a vehicle of that size cost. It should be cheaper, but so should everything else. It’s not abnormally expensive. The Ridgeline (which may be considered larger; I’m not really sure) starts at just under $40k. The Maverick is the cheapest pickup you can buy, but that’s only because no one is really competing with it.

Sales tanked in Q4 because of a stop-sale recall on the most popular trims. It was on track to be a top-ten selling vehicle. I already said this.

That’s actually a good point. I had a 2012 F150 as well (single cab, 8ft bed). How many F150’s of that generation do you think Ford sold? A billion? 2 billion? That’s hyperbole, retards. I’m just saying it was an absolute fuckton.

Now they only sell 50k Rangers. It’s literally the same size truck. It’s a different size bed and cab, obviously. But the utility is pretty comparable. Everyone suddenly needs an even bigger truck. It really doesn’t make sense.

Holy fuck, you’re an idiot.

I laid out exactly how these transmissions work, and you’re still saying “durr they the same!” You’re on a board for automotive enthusiasts and you don’t know what an eCVT is. You should be ashamed of yourself, but you’re too stupid to feel shame.

They’re not even remotely the same in how they operate. Like, at all. Another major issue is that this board is generally just as fucking stupid as you are, so nobody can back me up on this.

I wouldn’t recommend the Lobo because the transmission is basically a hand grenade waiting to explode. It’s an 8-speed that’s programmed to skip second gear. The 2.0L Ecoboost is only ok; sort of a mixed bag. Build quality all around is what you’d expect in a $30k car… but the Lobo is a lot more than $30k.

Ever been to NYC? The cabs are all Toyota Priuses and Ford Escape hybrids. Why the Escape? Because the C2 platform is rock solid. They put 70k miles a year on those vehicles. They’re not Ford fanboys, they just use what works.

Best bet if you really want a Maverick is the hybrid option. Everything else isn’t really exciting. The Lariat is what you’d expect at that price point (lots of cool stuff on modern cars that /o/ doesn’t even know about because they’re poor lol), but nothing that really blows your hair back. Same goes for the base XL; the trim is what you expect at $28k The AWD isn’t the best, but it’s functional. 4k towing isn’t a massive amount but might be ok. Payload capacity is alright but bed space is limited. It is designed to carry full sheets of plywood, which is pretty cool.

The truck seems like it was designed with homeowners in mind. That is, people who occasionally need a pickup but aren’t hauling shit every day.

This is probably the same nigger that thinks an eCVT and a CVT are the same thing.

My mom had a canary yellow Maverick back in the day and even as a little kid, I realized it was a POS. Riding down the road is sounded like there was a bucket of nuts and screws dumped in the trunk. My dad made he sell it after a couple of years and she got a 1978 Olds Cutlas Supreme Broham (which was my first car).

euros still like minivans and other big interior small exterior cars, and even make some (good ones too)
it's americans who first invented the mpv and then left them to die, with the last domestically produced model kept up solely by cripples who need their cars to have big enough doors to be wheelchair accessible

How does the Escalade compare to the Jeep Grand Wagoneer? Those seem gigantic on the road too.

Buddy, the Chrysler Pacifica is legitimately a good vehicle (other than being a chrysler). The seats fold away into the floor giving you more cargo space than a long bed pickup truck. 2 sliding power doors, power tailgate, front and rear AC controls. This was just the base model but I could fit lower-down motorcycles in the back. Plus the long wheel base to drive 1000 miles in a single day doesn't tire you out.

oh, of course, i didn't say it is a bad car. just that almost nobody buys it, at least not willingly.
i've roadtripped across florida with my family in a grand caravan a long while ago and it was great. well, the car at least, florida was kinda shit.

The Escalade ESV and Grand Wagoneer L are the extended wheelbase versions. The passenger room and trunk capacity are about the same.

The Grand Wagoneer is pretty nice. Though it's also a Jeep and Jeeps love to have random issues.
