it made me very angry after I did a wp job for my neighbor. chevrolet engine. a 10 minute job. remove the intake, use a big 1/2" bar to move the tensioner over, take off the belt, 6 bolts for the wp, the OEM wp uses a metal gasket so yo udon't even need to fuck with rtv or shitty paper gaskets, done.
so fucking easy.

lmfao. I know what you're referencing. I bought one of these and my manual explicitly states what the tension should be, perfect. no more fucking around guessing if my index finger is putting down 22 lb.

It's been a minute since I've owned a Miata, but as I recall you can just clamp the belt to the sprockets with a pair of vice grips to hold your timing.

I know this is kinda' a meme thread but I didn't see a QTDDTOT up and these frustrations mean some of you might know. 91 jeep cherokee, manual, 4.0 inline. 115k miles. I took it to a shop today to look at a squeak which I assumed was the serpentine belt and nothing more, guy said it might be the water pump. Then however, he mentioned the knocking in the engine. "What knocking?" I thought, I'd never heard this. I can't hear it idling but he could, when I rev it to 2k plus I hear a distinct "TOK TOK TOK TOK" in the rear of the engine. Any clues? One of the other techs said, "4.0s are bulletproof, what did you do to it?" but she's been babied and driven gentle for years. Please, even ideas as to what it might cost to fix would be nice.

the sqt/qtd thread just expired. u shoulda just made one, turbonigger.
>4.0's are bulletproof
they're not. if it increases / gets louder with rpms, it probably is rodknock. and if the sound is coming from the bottom of the engine. if it was at the top, then maybe it was something valvetrain like lifters or some shit that would be no big deal.
>$ to fix
engine rebuild or engine swap. $3k for a rebuild + another $2k to swap it in and out probably. if it's knocking, a bearing replacement isn't going to last long if you wanted to just do that.
engine swap...depends on how much the engines are that you get, if you buy a junkyard engine or a crate engine etc.
Get a second opinion before you do anything.

I use one on my race car.
Way more reliable than the spring loaded stock ones.
You have to check belt tension every oil change though.
