How did we go from a small vibration of the steering wheel or an audible warning to the car overpowering the driver if you forget to put the blinkers when trying to exit the highway? This shitass system almost got me killed four times, turning it off every time I start the car has become a habit.

Blame niggers. Lane assist was something exclusive to semi trucks 15 yeara ago but niggers insist on driving intoxicated so we all pay the price.

This is extra fun when the center markings on the road are so worn out the stupid lane assist sees the entire narrow road as a single lane.
If you let it steer, the car will end up in the center of the road (this may result in death if someone comes over the hill at the wrong moment).

The car is morally in the right to kill you.

Don't buy cars in which you can't turn it off permanently (through settings, programming or physically), simple as.

>put the left blinkers
>try to overtake a semi
>lane assist can't see the left lane and thinks I'm going to crash
>violently steers back into the right lane
you cannot convince me this shit wasn't designed to kill people

I was on a ~2000 mile road trip in a rental shitbox with all this shit recently and yeah, "lane assist" almost sent me into a semi more than once until I finally turned it off (it's alright on 100% empty roads)
When you'd try to pass a semi, and stay towards the far side of the passing lane to give the semi a wide berth, the car would "correct" by turning the steering wheel towards the semi in an attempt to center the car in it's lane. Quite dangerous for very obvious reasons I'd say.

Most people belong in public transit, you included.

I was in a nissan murano rental during a work trip and the stupid piece of shit system was activating all the time for no reason. It was infuriating.
While the "assist" isn't strong it's a surprise, upsets a planned maneuver, and is annoying.

kia cerato i was driving on a work trip at least just shook the wheel and no more. was able to turn it off by holding the lane assist button down, but still had to do it every time i turned the engine on. corolla i used on the same trip but in different location stayed off all the time which was neat.

On my Kia Niro I can choose for it to either beep, steer or just be off. I don't know any car that forces lane assist like that.

In my Ford Maverick it turns on and off with a button on the steering wheel and remembers the setting permanently. I love it because I can quickly turn it on when I want to take my eyes off the road, for example to text, or to bend down to get something that fell below the seat.

It's also really useful when I'm too drunk to drive. Combined with the active cruise control that automatically follows the speed limit and stays a set distance behind other cars you can basically drive blackout drunk consequence free. This is probably similar to what it's like to try to drive while being a woman or a minority so I'm glad they can enjoy the same assistance features too.
