>>28477366 (OP)shits fucked fellow wrenchlet, be prepared for a large repair bill or consider taking a massive humiliating loss when you sell it.
>>28477366 (OP)are you the guy that posted their hyundai making a grinding engine noise and you bought it anyway because the seller said it was normal?
its a hyundai so yeah its fucked
timing chain looks loose and can make a grinding noise when running. dont know why he zoomed in at the cams they look fine and not gouged
probably needs a timing chain so $3k or so
>Hyundai
Just leave it there anon and ghost him. Not worth it
Yeah sure it's your mechanic not you. Anyways, two things.
1. Those cams are fine. They have typical age-use wear, not damage or wearout
2. Timing's loose enough I'm surprised it held together and didn't skip. Well unless it did but you'd have a host of codes about it on top of horrible engine behavior. IF the timing skipped you MIGHT have actual damage in the valvetrain. But if the ECU isn't showing codes for cam problems and if it isnt showing codes for VVT related problems and if it isnt showing codes for misfires your top end should be fine.
Make sure the full timing kit/parts that goes in is real OEM, but cloyes and melling are generally the oem makers or equivalent for most timing chain sets so those should be G2G too.
>>28477516I love those cars.
>Bought Mitsubishi Diamante back in like 03>Dude broke the head somehow, left it at mechanics and walked away>eBay motors winning bid was like $252>Drove 3 hours for a $400 low mileage engine>Dropped it in and filled fluids>Sold for $4kCould have sold for more but I was already well in to the green.
It looks fine. He's scamming you.
>>28477531Fair enough. OP you could always try and try fixing it temporarily by pouring that engine cleaner or magical fix stuff in it and clear the codes then sell it to a single mom
>>28477366 (OP)I'm pretty sure this is a top post in askmechanics reddit but can't be bothered to confirm it
