Mazda 3 will feel slightly less like an appliance, Toyota will be worth like 50% more than the Mazda when you go to sell it.

Mazda has an actual transmission rather than a CVT, as well as slightly more power. Toyota will probably have higher resale value. So depends whether you're here for a good time, or a long time

i would consider camry vs mazda3.
can't lose either way but the camry is souless and zero fun to drive.

No objectively bad choices here. I'd choose the Mazda as it feels more fun to drive and it feels more comfy inside.
