How could an engine make MORE power using E85 than regular gasoline? My understanding was that engines make about 10% more power using non-ethanol fuel than regular 10% ethanol gasoline, but maybe this engine is different:

Power comes from a twin-turbo V8 that develops 1282bhp… using regular fuel. If you have access to some E85 juice, power increases to a whopping 1603bhp. That thumper of an engine is connected to Koenigsegg’s ‘Light Speed Transmission’ – a nine-speed gearbox which operates without a flywheel.

E85 is essentially 100-105 octane gas anon.
More Octane, means more boost before detonation.
More boost equal more power.
There's almost no E85 gas stations near me, so sad times.
But in Texas, there's gas stations every few miles that carry it.

Also, Koenigsegg has been remaking the same car for 15+ years.
I don't know how he gets away with it.

If an engine is designed for ethanol it can make more power than that same engine that was designed for gasoline.

Ethanol has potential but gasoline is king.
That probably doesnt make sense buy its a fact.

That's quite confusing. I don't think my regular SUV can take E85, and I do try to fill it with that 90 octane no ethanol unleaded where they have it, but that's something you see more at bigger filling stations like Rutters or Sheetz or sometimes in more rural areas.

It's turbocharged.

Alcohol is not gasoline, anon, not even essentially.

What does that have to do with ethanol?

The energy density of gasoline is indeed a bit higher than ethanol, true. Without any changes made, that means that a regular engine, designed for gasoline, will have reduced output when running on ethanol fuels.

However, this lower energy density means you need to add more fuel to get the same amount of power. Even "worse", you need need a 9:1 ratio of air:fuel for ethanol for a clean (stoichiometric) burn, as opposed to 14.7:1 for gasoline. Less air, more fuel. That's bad right?
Nope, it's actually pretty good one you have a high compression, highly boosted (turbocharged) engine. The compression of air, whether in a seperate compressor (turbocharger or supercharger) or in the engine itself, heat up the air. You can counter a lot of this via an intercooler, but adding fuel actually cools it a lot. More fuel equals more cooling, equals lower air temperatures and higher resistance to knocking - premature detonation, which is bad for power and very quickly bad for your engine's lifespan. Possible kaboom.
This means you can adjust the timing, compression and boost levels to a point where a gasoline engine would be knocking, but the ethanol engine can survive and make loads of power. The anti-knock rating (AKI) of ethanol is also simply higher, meaning you can run more boost, more compression, and thus get more power despite the lower energy density.

Taking this to it's logical extreme: nitromethane has lots of energy and a stoic ratio of 1.7:1. Lots of energy, lots of fuel, and thus lots of cooling. That's why Top Fuel nitro cars can run a supercharger that does an awful lot of air compression, and still and up with enough cooling to not blow up. They don't even need radiators: the fuel cools the blocks enough that they don't need water cooling for those short bursts.

He's just selling these to Chinese or oil sheiks I guess they just have lame taste and this sells.
It's weird nobody tries to make like custom coaches with roomy luxury interiors all the luxury car interiors are gauche and tacky.

You are retarded and misled by saudi oil. Ethanol is 100 octane plus and will beat saudi goo.

If an engine is designed, it will run better with ethanol. If an ECU is to please saudi masters, it will lack parameters to accept high octane. This is not even laziness, only corruption can lead to missing these parameters. Every brazil car has these oarameters. If your united tardian car lacks them, it is only due saudi oil lobby.

E85 is more knock resistant and burns cleaner, turning more of its pennyroyal energy into heat (and therefore power). The reason you think it's less powerful than gasoline is because it has lower energy density, but that just means you need to add more of it. It's not difficult to increase the injector duty cycle to add more fuel. Making power is all about getting more air into the engine and making the most efficient use of that air, all other concerns are secondary.
