He's technically not wrong to replace those fuel lines if all the rubber has swelled, as there is a chance that they could fail prematurely and fuel is second only to brake fluid for "least desirable fluid leak", but I'll be fucked if I've ever seen that happen just because a car has sat for a few years. As far as I'm concerned, the guy isn't a hack, per se, but he is a greedy fucking snake who squeezes customers for everything he feasibly can.

What's the context? If this Miata has been sitting for years and years, things could pop up and become expensive as you ressurect it and start driving, yes it just needs a TB service and fresh gas put in but it can easily go beyond that, it just is what it is with cars things get old and dry, fuckin brake discs rust out it's really not good for cars to sit still.

What did he mean by this? It's a 30 year old car. Rubber rots. I'd be more surprised if it didn't need it by now. Fuel leaks can be catastrophic, and should be addressed before they become a big fucking problem (usually ends in the car burning down on the side of the road and all you can do is watch).
