Novice car guy looking for some advice. I have a 2018 manual Forester that I'm looking to trade in for a bigger SUV, most likely a 4runner. I still want to have a 2nd smaller, fun car in manual. After all is said and done I'd probably have 10-15k to drop on said fun car.

I considered getting some sick JDM rhd car from 25 years ago but figured it wouldn't be worth the hassle and I'd probably get shitwrecked if I ever crashed it compared to a modern car.

What are my options? I don't think I'd have time to personally work on it so I just want something more low maintenance. I like the idea of a hatchback. The Civic hatchbacks or Corolla GR looks nice. Should I just get a Civic Si or GTI? Any years to look for and avoid? Same with the 4runner, I'd probably get a newer version of that

What's your use case for the second car? Is it purely a toy, for touge, or for highway commuting to work? MX5 is king of touge, MQB platform is king of the highways, and Civic Hatchback is king of interior volume and efficiency. Each have big tradeoffs vs the others.

Could maybe afford an manual rs200 altezza if your willing to import it yourself, otherwise you aren't really getting anything at that price point for a fun lightweight car that is reliable (it's still a 25 year old car).

Another daily driver I suppose. I'd use the 4runner for hauling things I need when I work / lug around my dogs. And the 2nd car as an easier option to drive around town and something that's more fun to drive than a 4runner

I wouldn't be opposed to something up to the 25k range. Just don't know shit about cars but I enjoy driving manual. I looked at the Altezza actually, it's tempting

NC2/NC3 Miata or a sick JDM car from 15 years ago. GC WRXs and STis are still really cheap.

I saw them a couple of years ago in Brooklyn. They played a lot of TOTBL songs which is my favorite album. Hearing The New live is something an Interpol fan needs to experience.

This kinda hard

I'll consider this

Miata's are too small for me. GC WRX or STI sounds like a good option

NC Miata is a shortened RX8 so it'll fit you unless you're 6'5 300lbs. Its the only Miata that's proven to fit big and tall.

The altezza rs200 is basically just an is300 with a higher reving engine that came with the manual. I was considering buying one but I would have to be driving it without real registration and hoping I don't get pulled over (california). Occasionally you will see some being sold on carsandbids but you will probably need to import it yourself. For 25k you could maybe buy a non base model skyline but if something breaks (it will) its not going to be cheap to fix it.
