What exactly was Honda thinking when they rolled out the new Accord? Do they want to make it unappealing so that people won't buy it and they can discontinue it?

Honda kinda just knows no one really cares what their toaster looks like so they probably have a rolling catalog of designs to update to.

I don't think I've seen an accord interior since the mid 2000s ones, but i can see why my non-car enthusiast friend said that an accord he rented was really nice

This is what I think. A lot of automakers want to kill of certain models to save money on production costs but in order to justify this to upper management they have to be able to demonstrate that "people just aren't buying it anymore". Ford did this with the Panther platforms, post 2003/4 models were often heavily de-contented from earlier models. Same for a lot of brands.

that's subjective, but it was an objectively better car. The previous model Accord with the 2.0 liter turbo engine and 10 speed transmission could do 0-60 in 5.5 seconds which is pretty peppy for a Honda Accord. The new ones are all Hybrids with CVT transmissions. This alone makes it a soulless vehicle aside from the exterior design.

Personally though I do think they want to kill it off. It used to be that the Civic was a tiny compact car that you bought if you were poor or super into fuel efficiency, and the Accord was what you bought if you wanted an actually halfway decent car that was tolerable to operate.

But now, both cars have grown a lot, and there's arguably only minimal difference between the Civic and Accord now. It doesn't make sense to produce both of them when they are so similar. Therefore, the rational thing to do is to eliminate one model, and focus on making the existing one even better. This is probably what Honda will do with the Accord. Since the Civic sells better and has better name recognition, they'll get rid of the Accord and just make the Civic slightly more luxurious, and probably slightly larger too

I think Nissan is doing the same thing with the Altima and Sentra. The Sentra has grown large enough that they are killing over the Altima because it's no longer needed (and has a bad reputation). Now the can incrementally improve the Sentra so people can be excited about new thingโ„ข when it suddenly has more than 150 HP.

Well, they killed off the 2.0T, killed off the V6, killed off both the manual and coupe at this point as well, leaving it as a CVT-only commuterbox with worse performance in nearly every single metric compared to it's previous generation. All of that is aside the fact that it's been porked up so much (supposedly because of the hybrid powerplant) that it's literally now as large as an old LS400 or even S-Class, too.
I'm not a fan of iPad-style screens, but it's still incredible how far downhill it's gone in the last few years.

Subaru has also done this. Legacy is dead. Impreza remains, though I doubt for very long. Since the lifted version (Crosstrek) prints money for them I'm sure the actual Impreza will be ditched soon.

Mazda got rid of the 6, but keeps the 3 around.

VW killed the Passat, but still makes the Jetta.

In the end, Camry will win, but it will win by default.

I don't like Honda much, but when everyone else is going for edgy, busy, over-styled designs with edgy swoops I can appreciate a car that just looks like a car. The new one looks better inside and out.
Performance? Don't care; it's auto FWD.

This, it looks smooth and sleek without trying too hard. On another note the civics, ESPECIALLY the CTR does this really well compared to the last gen factory-rice CTR.
Nobody cares about performance on a souless fwd auto sedan

The accord has been pretty much every car reviewer's top rated 'car' car for over a decade to date. Pretty sad how they are killing it like this.

I'm personally disappointed they made every other aspect of it more appealing while fucking over the engine/tranny. I'm starting to cross-shop a newer full size sedan, and the new accord got completely bumped off my list because of the shit engine and CVT

the only people it really appeals to is old people and autistic people who want a hybrid lexus but can't afford a hybrid lexus.
They knocked it out of the fucking PARK with the 10th gen, i see those things everywhere. Riced out, clean and stock, beat to shit by BHPH niggers, everyone loves them. But I don't see 11th gens but once a week.
