Decision Paralysis

How do you guys decide? I am up for a new car. Been driving a 350GT skyline for 10 years, love it, but need to update. Considering the cars pictured but limited to them either. Got about $35-50k AUD to spend. Thoughts? Suggestions? The Q60 RS seems cheap for what it is and because there's no demand I could probably get it for closer to $30k and it's a nice looking car.

The cars pictured are (clockwise) with approximate prices in AUD;
>2017 BMW 440 M $45k
>2017 Infiniti Q60 Red Sport $40k
>2022 Nissan Skyline 400R $45k
>2012 Audi RS5 Coupe $40k - $50k
>2003 FPV GT $30k - $35k

I'm not buying new (considered Nissan Z) because it's a waste of money. I want something good but say 6+ years old so I can get a bargain though negotiation (no I will not pay the asking price, ever).

What else can I consider?

What's the point of "upgrading" to a used rental? Just buy it new.

Stay away from the Audi if you value your bank account, or at the very least make 100% sure it's got a full new timing kit done recently.
The guides aren't pure plastic on those anymore, but the tensioners still crap themselves.

The RS5 is basically an R8 stuffed into to a front engine 2+2. It really only shares the hood roof and doors with the S5. It’s an amazing car but the prices for parts are R8 prices. It has the same 8 piston brakes which is amazing but on the flip side the Brake pads are like $700. Then the packaging is difficult since the chain is on the back and the o2 sensors and cats are back there. It’s all engine out so every bill starts with $3k before parts.
Worth owning yes, but you have to accept that you’ll have big jobs every now and then.

don't get an audi, way too expensive to maintain. You could get a nissan Z which has the infiniti engine but they are a bit too expensive atm, in a year or two there will be some for 50k though

This was me a few months ago. If you’re anything like me, you’ll struggle to make a decision and obsess over it until you finally do it and then completely forget about it and wonder why you ever cared so much in the first place.

r8 prices are completely fucked, if you want a clutch for one of the older automated manual ones its LITERALLY 11,000 dollars plus 12 hours labor for example.

I know a guy with a RS5 and he hates it and wishes he never bought it because of how expensive it is to maintain and how hard parts are to find

Thanks for the reminder - pretty sure I've done this a few times over the last 10 years and it just fizzles out. Was pretty close to getting a 2014 RS6. I'll try to keep non-deciding until I get over it and find something else to do

I have a 2019 Infiniti Q60 Red Sport AWD, and I wouldn’t reccomend an earlier year model due to many issues like misaligned AC Compressor (fixable) and failing turbo seals (if it was beat on with crappy oil and no cool down). However, one of the highest mileage VR30 is an Infiniti Q50/Nissan Skyline 400R from 2017, so you might luck out. You also need to upgrade the heat exchanger right away since it’s small and gets heat soaked really easily if you want to do more than one pull back to back. If this doesn’t sound appealing, I’d choose something else.
On the 2022 Nissan Skyline 400R, you’d probably wouldn’t have to worry about the issues above except for the upgraded heat exchanger which OEM upgrades exist if you care about warranty.

Thanks that helps - I was looking at the 2017, if you think it's that bad to have to completely avoid it I will proceed with caution. Are you saying if it's got high mileage then it's probably already had or will not have those problems?

Honestly out of all the cars I'm looking at, importing the 400R Skyline is the most appealing option for me.

Adding the Maserati Ghibli as it fits range / budget and to see if anyone has any experience with them?

What country? That’s weird. It’s an excellent car to drive, probably the best engine in terms of sound, smoothness, power, and build. However it will need maintenance and as I said. It’s engine out for a lot of things. Still, last chance for an NA V8. Just don’t buy it if $7k bills scare you.

Not sure why you'd consider infiniti slop.
The Falcon is a 20+ year old car and your 350GT mogs it in every way except exhaust note.
BMW you should test drive, people either absolutely hate how the steering feels or are indifferent.
The RS5 is a good choice. But like another anon says it has incredibly expensive upkeep.

I only considered them because the q60 RS is a spin off model of the Skyline 400R, which I really like. I much prefer the Nissan label, Infiniti just seems like a meme brand. The 400R's aren't factory delivered to australia though so I'd have to concede to another jap dash. Q60's are all english and pretty cheap <$40k.

Thanks for the note on the test drive, never driven a beamer so I"ll take note
