two of those engines are boat anchors that do exactly the same thing that were holding their respective cars back
one is so shit that it keeps the cars associated with it from rising in value like the rest of the 90s JDM cars.
one is a one off for a single car and never got used in anything else.

I honestly can't figure out which engine this is refering to

So. Mass produced wasn't part of the prompt. One of the only V10 for Japan to produce turned out to be based, that's the point

Roturds.

its not based, though. you can't even tune it. which is the entire point of jap engines.

If its a naturally aspirated, larger displacement engine thats more designed for better performance with reliability then based.
If its a modern smaller displacement engine, thats designed essentially for fuel economy with low performance. Then its a cringe regardless to is the engine naturally aspirated or forced induction.
Unfortunately 80-90% of modern Japanese car engines are cringe because they are too much designed for fuel efficiency above performance or have forced induction.

>Honda naturally aspirated 2.4l inline4 engine.
Based, it does have decent performance with superior long term reliability if maintained properly.
This engine can last even above 500000 miles if its not tuned. CVT transmission is the problem that slows down performance of this engine significantly.

You can't even neutral drop a 2.4L 5 speed automatic Honda enough times to make it die quickly, if the transmission is full of something resembling ATF, it's gonna go through the gears, that's why you see them all over the place in various states of disrepair, it's just a really hard vehicle to kill even with shit owners.

That's by design, those automatic cars have factory "2-step" that stops you from doing a full-rev neutral drop.
The early A/Ts were very underbuilt, only 3 (THREE!) dinky motorcycle-clutch disks on the higher gears. ~2006 got a revised transmission with more disks. Burnt/dirty ATF still kills them very quick.

They've only made better/more accessible naturally aspirated engines than the Germans. Like in the k24 for 4 cylinders and the 2GR-FSE for 6 cylinders.

The BMW B58 is better for turbocharged 6 cylinders and the EA888 is just as good if not even better than the k20c.

Honda's just weirdly obsessed with their FWD for some reason, so much so they would longitudinally mount a 3.2L V6 into their Legends, and then have like an AWD-ish diff come back around to spin the front wheels, I still don't understand why they did it, maybe because you got a midship design with the motor shoved backwards, but the weight distribution was still 60/40, it's barely better than my shitty Honda with 62/38 weight distro and an engine in front of the axles.
