If you rev it in neutral and wait for it to go back down before shifting into gear it's fine. It's not even as bad as redlining in gear (which is also fine) because there's no load from having to propel several thousand pounds of weight.

Manual? Auto? Just don't dump the clutch or hold brake boost for too long (cooks ATF if it's an auto) and you'll be fine.
