Ive got a 1st gen XC90 that I was working on, when I hit a part that made a "pop" noise, I attempted to push it back in with no luck, and all I can find on the whole-ass internet is this image which warns me to replace it, but doesnt tell me what it actually is, as volvo seems to believe there is no "locking sleeve"
The consequence I'm seeing from breaking this part is that there is no lock-out after turning off the car, I can freely shift back and forth no problem. Anybody know what the fuck this stupid thing is so I can order a replacement?

Have you looked at rockauto and Amazon? Or your local dealer parts department?

Why don't you just go to a volvo dealership and ask them? Looks like a shifter cable bushing to me.

My nearest is over an hour out, it will have to wait till the weekend, but its not a bushing, its a plastic cap that seems like a retention part, it may have something to do with the "sport mode" because shifting over to it I feel a slight bump.
I was able to get the shifter to lock out again, but I cant get the yellow "locking sleeve" to return to its original position.

it does look like a sleeve. parts websites have very simplified names, generally. There's probably 10000 different "clips" but they're all named clips.

Yeah I guess the fault isnt with volvo, since its their part, the fault is with the goobers using an utterly generic term like "clip".

>>28493009
the only option more expensive than the volvo itself, lol.
