In Europe it costs as much as a v6 e class despite containing much more metal (including aluminium) and a v8. And afaik in the US it's a genuinely cheap vehicle.

I'm curious; why is it that America has no domestic exotic car industry? Surely if there's enough wealth and know-how there that there shouldn't be a need to import them from abroad. Surely you could do it better.

If that were true you could get the 7.3 Godzilla in a F-150 or a Ranger... That's obviously not true when modern trucks and SUV's are forced to use tiny turbo engines or V8's with self destructing AFM.

We do? our manufacturers every 15 or so years are putting out halo cars BTFOing european supercars like the viper, corvette, mustang, Camaro I think fucked up most high end euro sports cars. Plus on top of that most states don't have mega-gay restrictions on modifications to your cars, so you realistically can take your F150 and make it faster than a porsche on a drag strip, or do whatever handling mods you want to any car.

Then theres Hennesy, Shelby, Saleen is somehow still around, SSC.

In europoop countries. Pretty much every car that doesnt have downsized 3-4 cylinder engines are more expensive due to taxes. The amount CO2 emission per kilometer is what determines how much you have to pay taxes, higher CO2=more expensive vehicle tax. Then theres also an vehicle import tax.

I think it's the culture. Once in a while they make a halo car, but most of the time their high end is something average working Joe can afford.
And not just in initial purchase price, but also in maintenance.
That's the whole point of slapping in big V8s with low power per liter.
They are very robust engines, won't cost you an arm and a dick to repair.
>need more power?
Just make engine bigger, silly.
They match supercars on performance but not on status.

Same reasons Ameritards drool over other imports (the rarer the better) or travel to Europe: they want to appear different from their neighbors and more refined. They feel their inferiority compared to Europe especially in terms of historical and cultural inheritance.
Like when every pleb on your street can get a Chevy, by getting an Italian car you can make yourself stand out. And if you actually traveled to Italy you could brag about that too, which is another step above mere mortals.

To be fair, Mercedes does try to fill the more expensive market niches too but without splitting into several brands/marques, and what domestic options do Americans have? Cadillac is for niggers (not really but that's what Americans think their neighbors think), Lincoln and Chrysler are semi-dead.

Is Mercedes not expensive everywhere? It is just a luxury brand like BMW, Lincoln, Lexus, Cadillac, Acura, Infiniti, etc. It is not an uncommon car at all, just pricier and you need to be middle-upper middle class to afford a new one

It has offerings in many segments of the market, including LCVs and city shitters like the A-class. I remember the latter being in the same price bracket as 1-series and some small Opels at European rentals.
Another thing is importing cars to the US: it costs money, so only the top models/configurations are imported, because for the others it's not profitable enough: they won't sell, you'll lose money on them.
So your average American is accustomed to BMWs and Mercs coming only with 2.5+ liter 6+ cylinder engines (and mostly gasoline) for decades while most of Europe is flooded with poorfag spec 3 and 4 cyls 2 liters and below.

I mean not really but slapping "platinum" on it doesn't make your vehicle stand out from the crowd. Even if the letters are large and shiny. Even fucking gooks understand that, so they created an entire new marque to distance a couple of models from other KIAs and Hyundais.

Probably. Mercedes and Audi are considered luxury brands in some places because they only import the premium/luxury cars there, but they also sell small hatchbacks and stuff in Europe.
Maybe they're better equipped and upholstered than a VW or Renault of the same class, and the infocrap runs smoother thanks to new Nvidia chips and shit, but I don't think they're exactly luxury vehicles.

Looking at Finnish car prices, a new Mercedes "AMG Line" hatchback (with a "sporty" 163 hp hybrid engine) goes for ~50k, though an almost unused 2 year old one is more like 30k. That's some nice depreciation. Wonder how expensive those are to maintain, with all the Merc gizmos and German autism packed in there.

I thought you guys have it hard even on the used local market because of the taxes compared to lots of other places in the EU, so the cheaper way is to get a slightly used German car from Germany. Am I right?

They start something like $40k-$45k, I guess that's cheap for what you get. Manufacturing and materials are global, that's how it stays cheap. Mexican labor. Economies of scale.

Yeah, new cars are fairly expensive here even in base spec these days. Bump the spec up to a decent level, and a small econobox easily goes for 30k. Then you'll probably need to add winter tires, a cabin/engine block heater and some other equipment to survive in that thing.

So quite a few cars on used car sites are imports from other Euro countries.
Definitely a good idea to run some vehicle history checks when buying one, though. Wouldn't be the first time someone buys a fancy car with under 50,000 km, only for it to turn out to be a piece of shit with 200,000 km totaled in a crash and put back together in a shady Eastern Euro shop, with the clock turned back just a little bit.

Because America is a big country, with big long roads, and a shitload of Karens that are afraid of anything that goes fast. So if you have to go thousands of miles at 65/mph, instead of a fast vehicle, you go for comfy instead. Hence, trucks, SUVs etc. There are comfy cars, but they aren't as comfy as vehicles with large interiors.

We stayed in the pyramids hotel. One of the cops 8 in the pyramid lobby said they have a precinct dedicated to it because otherwise the welfare-americans would do flashmob snatch and grab robbery of the place. Apparently some of them still try and just get arrested. The city also realizes that they'd lose a lot of revenue if they allowed it to be unsafe there.

Good man. The bass pro and hotel are super impressive and even more so when you consider that it's *in* memphis, which is the underachievement capital of the nation.
Yeah I left Memphrica being a LOT more racist and disappointed in the future than when I arrived there. That city is fuckin hopeless.
But to be fair about it, the crime really is heavily HEAVILY concentrated in nigherhoods or nigherhood adjacent.
And on the positive side it also really teaches people the lesson that you'd better be ready to defend yourself on your own because you're in hostile territory 100% of the time inside the loop and 10% of the time out of it. So I carried everywhere unless I knew there were metal detectors i'd have to pass through. concealed is concealed.
There are a few things I do miss including the near total lack of speed limits on the interstate. I've been doing 90 and would get passed by a cop without even a second glance. That part was fucking great.

Point is, whatever country he's from barring possibly the UK, we've got more exotic car manufacturers than he does.
