I liked it when I was 17 and had never driven a manual car, now I just can't enjoy it. I tried it in my work van and my mom's car and it's just not fun

Engine braking mostly
Overtaking in power-deficient cars or in turbo-laggers

Having to push forward to upshift and backward to downshift sucks once you've driven a car that has them reversed. Pushing back to upshift feels more correct because you're pushing in the same direction as the G forces you're feeling

>engine braking
This is what I use it for, pretty much whenever I'm getting off the highway. Work truck.

Nobody has ever used this feature except during the test drive at the dealership when the salesman points it out

Gives engine braking and the torque converter works kind of like a clutch if you abuse it.
Good for commuting.

It does have something like a clutch in it.

It's not ideal, but better than not having it. I almost always drive autos in semi-auto because it's less boring.
Specifically on 10 yo Smart cars you have to drive a certain way in semiauto (lift the throttle slowly before shifting), the cars buck and lurch when they shift normally in drive and if you lift it doesn't shift.
