Didn't Audi get gimped by the dieselgate situation? You drive by the Audi dealerships and they're still selling pretty much the same cars they were ~7 years ago save for some niche stuff like the badass E-Tron GT and whatever the hell abomination picrel is. Audi used to be fare reasonably well against BMW and Mercedes but now it's like most of their lineup is outdated and unremarkable

No. Your soulless electric transport pod is an edgy appliance. It's no more "badass" than a refrigerator with a carbon fiber handle.

I like the Etron GT a lot desu.

https://youtu.be/43C8hSLcCAc?si=Knr-2mLLNdc9G3rg

Normal fag audi fans are even seeing how bad the new cars are btw. This video went viral this week and made rounds with the Audi exec board.

The video has some good points desu but the complete death of their Motorsport division from engineers to drivers is the real shit decision. The RS cars used to have the suspension tuned by the Le Mans drivers on the ring. Now they all got let go and we have an RSQ8 which is prob just a badge and maybe a 5% thicker sway bar

The new cars A5/A6 and friends are literally the new cheap interior and the shit exterior with the same engines except they added some more filters and more mild hybrid shit and then they made the S5 one piston brake caliper.
Not really ok on an S car and I don’t care if you think the regen helps. You can’t dissipate heat with one piston which means these are going to be dogshit performers. No coupe either is cringe.

Audi hired the BMW sauber F1 engine developer to fix the diesel gate problem and he gutted the Audi Sport racing division bc it had nothing to do with electric cars and he wanted Audi fully electric by 2030. He went all in on F1 next, which is cool I suppose but F1 isn’t really related to customer racing which was a profitable enterprise under Audi. He binned it bc he wanted to to be green and electric and race cars are dirty and combustion. All current F1 teams make more money than the spend so entering F1 is a safe as fuck business move if you can get in. So was GT3 though. Anyway he’s gone now so Audi will likely rebuild its customer racing from scratch considering the whole infrastructure of building the GT3s and being at racetracks for technical support and supplying parts around the globe is gone and so are rhe people that made it work.
there is a chance to make it better because Audi USA refused to spend the money on customer racing bc he didn’t want the expense in his budget but under Germanys budget (similar c suite antics in GM with GM Europe refusing to pay for Le Mans so GM NA funds the corvettes ).

Also interesting about the S5. It has a new DCT and it’s not clear what it is, possibly brand new. People were worried because Quattro Ultra (which is clutch based with a detachable drive shaft and rear axle with no torsen) doesn’t work with the ZF8 so it can’t be used with the Q7. There was concern the new DCT existed to bring Quattro Ultra to the S range. It is not so. Hopefully it’s better than PDK and the older DS501s

>Performance road cars
TT was old and didn’t sell, same as the R8. The R8 might come back with the new Lamborghini they’re selling next year.
As for RS versions of their existing models? I don’t know.
As for their Motorsport endeavors- they are all-in on F1. I guess they don’t have the budget to do what Ferrari did and compete with a factory team in WEC as well as F1.

brief explanation of dieselgate:
government sets absurd unrealistic emissions targets for diesel engines (which is funny because they NEVER applied to trucks or commercial vehicles so really it was a way to kill diesel passenger cars from the start)
these new emissions standards are ONLY achievable by putting urea into a tank- urea isn't cheap and sometimes needs to be added every 5000 miles ish when you drive it hard or tow
vw realizes this - sets it to have a mode where it doesn't require urea - which is obviously sootier - EPA figures this out years later - ALL the other manufacturers were doing the same thing with their diesel cars but only VW was made an example out of
government uses this to milk VW for cash even though it was the government's fault
VW is a shitty unethical company but the government was in the wrong here
instead of reaching out to manufacturers and setting realistic emissions targets they selectively fucked over passenger car diesels almost as if on purpose
it's not like diesel trucks went anywhere

>>28493487
ok now load it up with luggage - send it on twisting mountain roads - and see how far it goes - weird how car journalists almost NEVER test ievs on mountain roads or carrying tons of gear - I wonder why - almost like they are paid by car companies
