Since I needed a midsize pickup because there is no way I'll get a fucking sedan in a very snowy place I ended checking the usual suspects.

>Frontier
>Tacoma
>Ranger
>Colorado
>Ridgeline

The colorado has severe tranny issues even after all this time, the Ranger is grenading itself despite Ford claiming they fixed the problem, literally at their dealership they had 5 of them with engine problems. Went to test drive the Frontier but that tranny is just disgusting, sure the engine itself is great and has a decent amount of power but cannot trust Nissan these days.

Finally went to check the Tacoma, great truck overall until they opened the hood and saw that shitty 4cyl engine... who the fuck at Toyota thought "lets grab one of our best selling trucks and get rid of a good V6 and put in there a turbo 4 banger"? ended up checking the Ridgeline just because a friend has one too and man, say whatever you want but ticks all the boxes especially for daily life, yes it's unibody but it can tow, has lots of space, you can easily modify the suspension and it doesn't try to be a penis enlargement device like most truck drivers need, ended up getting a black edition one.

I do have one question, why so many people seethe so hard at this truck, fragile masculinity? lack of test? ignorance or NOCAR shit?

I assume 2.7s? I know those have had trouble, but the 2.3 is pretty solid unless they changed something in the new gen, lots of guys well over 100k on the 5gRanger forums. Mine is about to hit 70k and hasn't had any issues.

Also, fwiw, the last-gen Tacoma V6 was kind of a piece of shit too. Google "2GR-FKS failure" or search "engine failure" on Tacoma World and it's kinda shocking how many have grenaded. Toyota really went downhill across the board after the '00s and the last decade or so have just been coasting on reputation without really doing much to deserve it.

OP is a bait post by some turbo-autist who keeps trying to shill the ridgeline. Both of those engines are fine and he made up the part about the dealerships having problems.

Im looking for a replacement for my transit connect, the ridgeline and a 2015+ F150 regular cab are the only contenders. I don't tow or carry building material, I do carry chemicals and a myriad of random tool boxes. Ridgeline would win if it wasn't so damn unaffordable.

I wouldn't get a truck for snow. They're hauling vehicles purpose built for that. Too heavy, they sink and slide all over the place. I used to see them struggling to get up hills when the road was icy and I'd casually roll right by them in my Rav4. You just need AWD for snow and not really. 2WD sedans would pass stuck trucks.

It's expensive because everyone since Mercedes showed you can just slap luxury features on a military vehicle (their G series) and sell it for 200k to rich retards, every military vehicle manufacturer has tried getting in on it. It's a hip thing right now in LA to drive some offroad vehicle in pristine luxury trim and obviously never take it offroad. You see G wagons, Grenadiers, Defenders, Wranglers too all over the place but that's like a poor man's attempt at following this trend. I even see imported Landcruisers, the proper ones. They're extremely popular and it's getting annoying. Go out to the actual desert or anywhere where you actually can offroad and you don't see any such shit.

1. You must suck at driving if you can't handle a sedan in the snow. People up north have been driving around in FWD sedans in the snow and ice for decades, and they're just fine.

2. Get a truck if it makes you feel better about your little dick, but don't pretend it's going to be any better at driving in the snow.

3. Of all the mid-sized shit, the Frontier is your best option. Taco/Ranger/Colorado are turbo shitcans. Ridgeline isn't a real truck - but if you're not towing (and I really doubt you ever will) it could be an ok option.

Sedans can drive without issues on winter, if the higher amounts of snow is frequently plowed away from roads. Just get higher profile winter tires for your car. Dont install any lowering kits for your car. Sedans can drive without issues even if the snow is about 14-15cm high depending on the ground clearance of the car.

Summer tires are often lower profile tires than winter tires with most cars. If you read your car owners there's mentioned rim, tire sizes that car manufacturer allows you to safe, legally use with your car.

Ridgelines aren't by any means bad. Most people just don't ike unibody for reasons like crashes totaling the truck, versus a body on frame meaning you can replace the body or frame in major collisions. There are probably other reasons, but this is usually the most popular reason people give other than they can't tow a large boat with it.

Does that necessitate the whole truck being disliked?

No.

But everybody would rather hate on each other over nothing than help each other with small nothing problems.

Frontier is the only option for a straight man in 2025. The Tacoma got gay in 2024. One other less known option is a single can f150 regular bed.

they have a thread where the rule is to only post once and not go on and on about it in their sticky area. They have 127 posts in that thread despite people breaking the previous stated rule.... they sold ~2 million from 2016-2023. There are also a few posts that from people already getting to 400k miles on that gen so I think its gonna be ok.

Also here is the link for those who actually look into things rather than blindly believing random anons.
