If you use your indicators do you turn them on before or after you begin turning?

For a basic open hwy lane change. I do 2 clicks, start moving, let it click a third, then release.
2 clicks before any movement, that's my fuckin' policy.

This.

I think legally you’re supposed to signal like 100ft before you make the turn or lane change.

But then there’s the real world, you’re driving on I-95 in a semi truck and everybody is an asshole. If you need to change lanes driving the truck and you put on the signal, the car in back will close the gap 75% of the time because they don’t want to be behind a truck. So in that case, signal as my tires are coming over the line.

Signal at least 3-5 seconds before doing any turns or merges. Not only is it the law, its the right thing to do.

I signal and then move. Yeah, there are some dicks out there but for the most part people do help out if they know sufficiently in advance what you're wanting to do.

The oft quoted BOILS (Brake Operated Indicator Lights) are mostly attributed to BMW owners.

As early as possible, so way before turning. As long as it cannot mislead anyone to think I could go somewhere that is before the intended turn or to take a stop. E.g. if there are two possible right turns close one after another and I need the second one, I will put the indicator on immediately after passing the first.

You are supposed to turn your car turn signals/indicators before you turn so everyone can know your intention, they can safely avoid collision to your car and they never have to brake so hard that tires slide or squeal. Turning indicators/turn signals on after begin turning is pointless and too late.

For turns I turn it on before turning, try to give it a couple seconds, more so on oddball intersections. Changing lanes I try to do it before I start coming over however where I live passive aggressive cunts will see your signal and speed up to not let you in.

If they hit you from behind then they crashed into you and were at fault and may probably be charged for it.
This is why dash cams became a thing.

I have a dashcam, both front and rear facing. However I'm sure I'd get an "at fault" blame/ticket since I would be entering another lane of traffic. What you have to do and what people expect is you signal as you're coming over. BEV are the most cuntish at this since they can accelerate very quickly to fill the gap.

It depends on the person behind me is riding my ass.
Normally I put on my blinker about 5-10 seconds before I turn but if someone is riding my ass I suddenly stop and turn my blinker on at the same time, then very slowly turn to piss them off even more because my life is misery, it brings me a little joy.

My car enables this really easily by doing exactly 3 flashes if you just push the stalk in the turn direction without locking it in position.

honestly i find that annoying because im used to manually turning off the blinker if the blinker canceller doesn't do its thing, so sometimes i push the stalk but not hard enough to lock it and then i go to cancel it but whoops it's now blinking in the other direction.

Man, it’s amazing, trucks need to change lanes just like cars!

>>28494029
I don’t mind the blind spot. The annoying thing driving a semi is that people like to ride the next lane over right at the rear or your bumper. They’re nervous drivers so even on a straight road they just sit there and don’t pass. So you can’t safely change lanes when their front bumper is on your rear bumper and may need to drift over a little to get them to finally pass.

holy fuck that pisses me off to no end. ive posted about it in another thread, it's like they think any attempt to speed up and pass will result in the semi instantly flipping over on its side specifically to crush the offender. just fucken push the accelerator further down until you're decently clear ffs.

Sometimes states designate the most random roads to be "truck routes" and they're two-lane roads with narrow lanes, so passing one can become impossible if you don't do it quickly. I've been avoiding truck routes unless I have to.
To think until 9/11, trucks were FAR more common on the streets of NYC and could take the tunnels to NJ instead of being forced all the way up to the GWB. Fuck the (((PANYNJ))).

It's not just semis, I experience the same thing driving a Honda Civic. People love to hover in your blind spot just off the corner of your bumper. My personal theory is that they're on their phones and using your vehicle in their peripheral vision as a reference to follow. Sort of like people who are speeding but when they catch you they tailgate you despite the lanes to the left being wide open to pass you. They can't drive without following someone. Same as when you park at the far edge of a parking lot and come back to cars parked around you - they need the frame of reference to even be able to park their car.
