yeah windows is unusable without spending 10 hours unfucking it directly after install. I recommend at a minimum disabling updates, removing all the bloat, and disabling defender. Dont connect it to the internet except to specifically download software you need

Linux, assuming your software supports it. If you're new, try Mint.

Yeah, the install that ships in consumer laptops (and is restored on system recovery) is typically terrible and needs to be purged for any serious use. Some of those laptops are so full of bloatware and bad drivers that they struggle to even play back low-latency audio without stutters and clicks---it's like something's constantly blocking the system. Was that called DPC latency or something?
Definitely wouldn't risk running a low-level flash or anything from crap like that.

The enterprise/academia professional installs used to be decent, but some of them now show profiled ads.

I run the full Haltech Nexus suite, Hondata SManager, KManager, and HP Tuners on my laptop. I haven't had a single issue with windows. Literally none. It just werks. I ran the windows 10 debloater script from github on an LTSC version just for speed but it worked fine even before on standard LTSC. You're being way too paranoid bro. Make copies of your calibrations and just roll with it.

I don't think any software besides LinOLS works on loonix without the Wine interpretation layer.

ouch. i just went to massgrave.dev and got me ltsc 2021 in about an hour. i'm still pleasantly surprised at how easy it all was, especially to activate it, and even change the activation method to change it to LTSC IoT which is supported until 2032 unlike regular LTSC which goes to 2027.

I've only flashed 3 of my cars like 100 times on a stock win10 laptop so maybe I'm biased.
Nothing's going to happen if you aren't retarded.

11 is the product of Microjeet, has many poorly added features. You wonder why many of the deep settings screens are still there from Win 95, it's because nobody knows how to change those parts.

I had no idea how bad this could get
GF bought a cheap-ish laptop, it was absolutely unusable from CONSTANT pop-ups by pre-installed programmes and "tools". Unusable as in you couldn't perform any real task on it.
Anyway, my point was they're making it really easy these days to purge all this shit and install a clean OS from usb drive, and then it just werks apparently. But I still can't wrap my head around how the companies could think it's ok to hand such a product over to any customer.

Sorry, I have to ask, is teams, weather app, and news page sidebar your idea of unusable constant popups?
If you're too stupid to figure out how to get to the startup programs, and activated services settings you have no reason to talk about how to use a computer.

Oh wait

See >>28496235. Prebuilt PCs come loaded with bloatware to make them cheaper. You've got to delete all the bullshit programs you don't use day 1 ("add or remove programs") then restart PC and go to startup programs in task manager and disable any that still are up there. If you're really good you'll go through program files and manually delete any folders left over from the stuff you uninstalled.
>Anyway, my point was they're making it really easy these days to purge all this shit and install a clean OS from usb drive, and then it just werks apparently.
You don't have to install a new OS. You can put an OS on a thumb drive and partition the rest of the space as storage. Plug in the drive and set the BIOS to run off that. I have several linux distros with persistence on thumb drives and can use them on basically any computer.
None of this is as hard as it might sound.
