now that the dust has settled how real was Initial D?
I'm not talking about highschoolers getting fucking by older men with jobs I'm talking about the driving and /o/ness.

pretty real if you look at it as a documentary of what its like being a teenager/young adult living in rural/suburban japan during the early 1990s and being into cars imo

remember they didn't have broadband or cellphones as easily as we do now, credit was cheap/easy so you could get a cool car easily, games were consoles like playstation and snes/n64, and being a weeaboo animetard wasn't easy since you had to go actually catch the episodes on tv when they aired

It's a dramatization/celebration of a very real culture. Those center lane poles on every Japanese mountain road didn't just pop up into existence for no reason.

It was almost all realistic on a basic level in first stage, all of those driving and passing techniques are really done in the way shown in the show. But there's added magic and speed to make it cooler.

I mean if you really think you can just repeatedly hook your tire into a concreted drain ditch and suffer no problems immediately after that during a race...

In concept, the probably best part was when takumi had to drive with only one hand taped to the 12 o clock position of the wheel. As an understanding of steering limitations in any situation and how to understand adding more control via wheel power and weight balance modulation, that's the peak of Initial D as it applies to reality.

Everything else is just manga for the sake of manga.

You really can. I've done it on a highway interchange ramp near me plenty of times at ~70 and you can use throttle and it sorta hooks you there. I do dumb shit.
Would it be viable daily, then in flat-out races? Theoretically yes, but of course not in reality. It wouldn't be exciting without stuff like that, but it is all based in a grain of realism at least.

My dude the drain gutter as depicted in Initial D's Akagi pass is 1.5 foot wide and half a foot deep with a hard lip. It's like dragging your tire into a concrete curb. Whole premise behind the "gutter hook" is that he can force higher speed from that hardcore motherfucking maneuver.
It isn't real. You can't do it in real life. Curbing a tire IRL destroys it.
Ask me how I knowm

I was thinking of the Akina one where it's just a ramped lip on the side of the road for drainage. The big storm drain one is theoretically possible, it is, but ultimately manga bollocks.

He doesn't break it out in Akagi though?
IIRC he only does a standard gutter run in Akina and Irohazaka, and the floating wheel fuckery against the MX-5. When the MX-5 tries it, his wheel dips straight in and he flips as expected.

The best fantasy part you mean. Because he would have to take the tape off anytime he wasn't skidding around a corner. You would at least need to palm the wheel on a regular turn

Takumi's slow ass ae86 beating anything faster was fake as fuck. Even after the formula toyota engine upgrade he only had 240whp.

The whole concept was he had no fear because he did it every day starting at a young age. In real life most people play it slightly safe so they don't die. It doesn't matter what car you have if you know what you're doing and good physical intuition. That's what initial d is about.

240whp in a car that weighed like 1800lbs or even lighter, had heavily tuned suspension, and a driver mod
>>28497313
None of the Civics that Takumi raced against made 400hp. Shingo's EG6 made 185hp, Daki's EK9 (theoretically) made 185-200hp, and Tachi's EK9 from Todo School made 200+. Sakai's Integra was turbocharged and most likely made 300+, but that car raced against Keisuke.

Yeah except they were racing on tight mountain roads where 3rd gear is barely used, not a race track with 140kph+ corners
