This, my car would've been deemed "not economically viable to repair" if I hadn't bought it and worked on it myself

I'm a wrenchlet only far as recharging my AC goes. I suppose I would be if I weren't frail.

Mine is 22, and will probably last another t0. It's mostly a matter of selection of durable models in good condition.

like i walked to the auto parts store to get a tool with my phone in hand. THOUGHT i placed it in my pocket, but it wasn't in my pocket when i reached for it. i keep looking through my car in vein hoping its there. i would lose the fucking phone just before the 4th of July. i can't door dash, and holidays pay big with door dash as everyone ordering a shit ton of overpriced food.

shit sucks.

Mine is 19 now, great condition but it had a clutch that was on the way out when I bought it and the official procedure for swapping that out calls for dropping the subframe so getting a shop to do it means the repair exceeds the value of the car
Did it myself with a couple of bros for less than half that money, along with a bunch of other small "while you're in there" shit, and now it's perfect again

Shit like this makes me glad of two things.
(1) I do my own oil changes
(2) I'm not married

Based OP, don't let these wrenchies put your car on blocks for several months like they do.

I spent 4 hours getting sunburned in a gravelly parking lot mostly replacing a solenoid module to address a hard 1-2 shift. It no longer shifts to 2nd at all and goes into a kind of transmission limp mode now where it clunks into 3rd and stays there, but at least I rotated the tires and checked the brakes while it was off the ground so that's nice.
First time in almost 17 years of ownership that a service I've done has failed, feels bad man but at least the car is drivable so I can can crawl to my local mechanic like a toddler waking you up at 3 am because they shit themselves.
