I'm thinking about modding my piece of shit 2010 F150. I'm not a car guy by any means - what would you guys recommend I start with? To avoid rookie mistakes and just general retard decisions?

My end goal is something that looks tailored to my personality but is fast as fuck because I'm a shithead who likes to speed.

Would I be better off getting a hunk of junk and using that as my "playground" for mods, instead of my primary car?

Yes but the issue is the wiring harness, you need a new wiring harness to drop a Coyote on an older Modular platform, the price of a Coyote and a wiring harness is quite expensive, might aswell just buy a 4x4 Coyote F150 if you want a fast truck and just drop a supercharger.

It's sounding like I have a shit base to work with in this F150, which is a bummer. I was really enjoying the idea of having an older looking body but with a more modern feel and speed to it.

I think trucks are for work not speed. The best you'll ever be able to do is mod the shit out of the engine to produce a huge amount of horsepower at which point you'll have a truck that can accelerate very fast; but that still can't turn for shit.

Making a truck fast, particularly a full size truck like a F150 is just a retarded decision to begin with. If you want a fast car you'd be better off buying something used that's already fast and just letting your truck be a truck.

If the truck is already capable of speeding (it is) then you really don't need much more just for a butt dyno. If you've worked with your hands before, do what every high schooler does and install a set of cherry bomb mufflers. Put softroader tires like Wranglers on it to make it look tougher/cooler. Maybe a sun shade. Deep clean the interior and fix anything wrong with it. Install a sliding rear window if it doesn't have one. Your truck will now feel different enough to you to probably get the result you wanted without spending multiple thousands of dollars. Also yeah, don't hot rod your daily.

Yeah; but it doesn't handle very well and its tall enough to be top heavy so you don't want to throw it into a corner too hard for fear you'll roll it. You can definitely have fun hooning around corners in a RWD truck or a big RWD sedan; but they'll never be a sports car.

Like you said a stock truck with a good engine can accelerate pretty well and if that's what you want then great; but there's no reason to try and modify it for speed beyond that.
