I need an old man's car with a bit of class and a big engine. Any suggestions?

You're nearly on the money, an E55 with a 5.4L supercharged M113K making nearly 500hp while looking like grandpa's Mercedes sedan is a great choice if horsepower and speed are metrics you want. Price, even, since they're rather affordable for the performance they offer. A similar S55 works too if you want the same thing in XL size, price is usually the same.
If you don't care about 0-60 or 1/4 mile times, the land yacht is what you want. An old Continental like >>28496668 , or an old Eldorado with the 500ci (8.2L) V8. Maybe even an Imperial Lebaron with a 440ci V8. If you don't want something decades old, don't care about speed/tech, and just want "an old man's car with a bit of class and a big engine" then the last answer I'd say is a late model Lincoln Town Car.

E55 if you don't want to pay ridiculous amounts for maintenance and still grenade your engine.
Performance is the same, with the exception that you can't launch the E55, you need ~30mph to be able to floor it.
Basically that RS6 is for brainwashed Audi fans, it's too expensive both in buy price and maintenance. The real deal is the S8 D4, it's faster than the RS6 and it comes with the ZF8. Pre-facelift is approximately the same price.
I have an E55 and it's a blast.

as long as you don't live near the coast. those things rust worse than a Mercedes. Check the hinges and rear arches before purchase.

E Class. Much better car overall. RS6 isn't much faster for having 70hp more, and you'd really have to want 10 cylinders

If you are in the UK:
Jaguar XJ petrol
Mercedes E320 CDI (the straight six one not the V6) or a V8 as they are generally well put together
535i or d

Avoid Audis. They are massively overpriced on the UK market. Lexus LS are also an option but a lot of these are on silly miles now and whilst they are well put together theyโ€™re not invincible. Iโ€™d also avoid anything with air suspension as it is never maintained properly and will be your main headache on an old car

That's one of the reasons the CLS exists, it shares it's chassis with the E-Class. They're just a touch more rare and harder to find than a standard E55.
