they put very little effort into class-leading technology, design, engines, interiors etc, its safe toaster cars for old people who fear change
they are reliable because they use 15 year old parts instead of trying to innovate

In Europe, flashing wealth is generally frowned upon between top-performing professionals (TC +- 800k-1m/year, age <40, top doctors in private practice, star lawyers, etc). Leasing, or god forbid, getting a LOAN for your car is seen as utterly pathetic. Like, who do you think you are, and why do you feel the need to show off?

True signals of wealth in Europe are: zip code, buying big vacation homes in South France/Spain, expensive private schools and expensive hobbies for (multiple) kids, luxury vacations that you post about on Instagram, having ties to the government and governmental funding institutions. Buying a pure "sports car" is seen as buying an expensive toy, literal manchild or Arab immigrant behaviour. The only thing I can concede is that you can buy an expensive SUV for your wife and kids and not be seen like a clown by your social circle.

>inb4: 800k/year is not rich
Yes, you're not a billionaire, but you also don't have healthcare costs that can rack up in the millions in the US for end of life care, neither are you so scared of litigation in pressure cooker professions. With that money you're also completely isolated from the effects of immigration and you can fulfil the dream of living in a "white boreal ethnostate" or whatever the fuck.

I would agree most cars in Europe are 10+ year old shitboxes with battered bumpers. Only new cars you see are rentals. In the UK everyone is desperate to have a new car on their drive to show off, otherwise you haven't made it.

This more utilitarian european approach to motoring like driving a 1.4l Renault Scenic that hasn't been washed in years, so you can throw 12 boxes of wine in the back every month, is refreshing.

actually, i'm in the market for my first car and i'm definitely getting a lexus,

i want that toyota reliability with a more polished finishing, just enough luxury but stay under the radar. you don't want to buy an expensive german/UK car because it's not engineered to last and you attract too much attention with it, and you'll be actively paranoid about it getting stolen or hit

the more money i make, the less i want to show off, i remember that when i hadn't much money, it was there when i was in love with porches and aston martins.

but now, i just want quiet luxury stuff, and i look down to everyone trying to show off with the marketed new rich trends.

i'm looking at the lexus crossovers lately, probably a UX 300h with a custom sexy body kit from japan will be my first car.

It's all relative. 200 years ago, if you had some form of equivalency to $800k, you'd literally have no way to spend it other than company acquisitions and corporate expansion. The luxury and ultra-luxury market now exists due to the high consolidation of wealth and industrial mass production.

I thought the badge comes with privileges like overtaking across a solid/yellow line, and driving at least 30 kph over the limit when doing so.
Bonus points for doing that on a road covered in slush and wheelspin-spraying it all over the other cars in the process.

Wrong. At best you get a higher trim for a worse overall engine(in BMWs case at least, all of them have plastic dogshit nowdays)
Also, where I live at least, shops that specialize on Fords are not very easy to find. VW group is more common but does not come anywhere near close to how many BMW specialists exist. Merc ones are also plenty because every other taxi is a Merc for some reason(and the rest are Skoda)

1- shitty trims, ES looks like a 2016 huyndai from the back while IS looks like a corrola from the back.
2- underpowered, newer GS models come in 4 cyl hybrid, IS in 4 cyl turbo in most countries, which makes them pointless and gay
3- only the LS makes sense, but then only if you have a personal driver, itโ€™s gay to drive your own limo.

Lexus is generally the most disappointing luxury brand as Toyota can easily make it great if they stopped being faggy japs.

Europeans travel to America for health care. Americans don't travel to Europe for health care. American health care may be a bit pricier, but the service is far better. It is the Lexus to Europe's Ford Taurus. Europe's fine if you just need a broken bone put in a cast, any chimp can do that. But actual serious medical procedures? Those who can, fly to America. In the States it's common to see huge Trughs and SUVs that cost as much as a Lexus to own and operate, but are trash both in terms of dependability and driving experience. I put it down to bad taste, rather than budget.

The US and Israel are in the perfect codependent findom relationship. Americans want to be treated like submissive paypigs, and Israel enjoys the money. I don't want to hear you cry about the Jews again.

Why are yurocucks so desperate to suck the dicks of โ€œhigh societyโ€ and flaunt their ultra wealthy as โ€œclassierโ€ than the wealthy in America.

Itโ€™s like theyโ€™re genetically wired to be peasants and suck the dicks of their feudal lords.

What is it with yuropoors never being specific about which country they're from? It's not just on /o/ either, they all talk a big game about how the USA is a shithole but they never admit which country they actually live in. There's no way you actually feel any sort of nationalism to the EU right? That's pathetic if true.

Probably the same reason Americans don't mention their state if that is not relevant to the contents of their post.

There's another reason that just came to my mind: your average American doesn't know where most of the Euro countries are, but West/Central/East/Balkan/Mediterranean gives the reader rough estimation of what to expect in terms of weather, culture, prosperity and so on. Same reason state names don't mean much to Euros, most of us probably don't even know where the salt states are.

Toyota Avalons are the better ES300hs until you get into the high-end trims.

>better head unit/infotainment
>rear seats fold down to accommodate bulky cargo
>better exterior styling from 3 out of 4 directions
>Limited trimโ€™s amenities are directly comparable with lower trim ES300hs
>no badge tax / โ€œrich manโ€™s carโ€ stereotyping

The only real drawback is that you have to deal with the Toyota dealership instead of the Lexus one. Same story with the old Land Cruisers vs their Lexus LX counterparts.

>In Europe, flashing wealth is generally frowned upon between top-performing professionals (TC +- 800k-1m/year, age <40, top doctors in private practice, star lawyers, etc). Leasing, or god forbid, getting a LOAN for your car is seen as utterly pathetic. Like, who do you think you are, and why do you feel the need to show off?

https://www.fleetnews.co.uk/news/leasing-news/2021/11/29/private-vehicle-ownership-falls-by-42-in-europe
>The leasing industry has grown in the past five years, with private ownership falling in Europe from 53% of total market in 2013, down to 42% in 2021, according to research by Jato Dynamics.

Hey I just want you to know that there are more MRI machines in the US state of Vermont than in the entirety of Canada. And that's just MRI in general. If you need the newest, bleeding edge functional MRI tech, you had better be in the US too, since Vermont also has more medical cyclotrons for making the isotopes you need.

I doubt most people buying Lexus are buying for the clout. If they're anything like my parents, they're buying it because they want a nice car to buy as they enter retirement that will be enjoyable (read, not sporty, just quiet and easy going) and hassle free. Just because these buyers could afford to drive a Merc E wagon, and have anything wrong covered under warranty, doesn't mean that they want to fool with it, and many are old enough to have deep rooted hatred for some makes. Additionally, if they are retiring, they probably want to buy it outright and reduce their obligations once their income shrinks, so they are often looking to take the Lexus to the grave instead of trade up in 3 years.

What this board misses a lot (due to skewing young and carless) is that for the vast majority of people, cars are purely functional items that occasionally signal lifestyle aspirations. A means to get you from one place where life happens to another place where life happens. People here love to use 'boring' as the absolute worst thing a car can be, but for most people cars are only 'exciting' when they're causing problems. And the older I get the more I get that. I've got a job and a family now. There just aren't enough hours in the day to fuck around with project cars I don't really care about. I just cannot justify having my family driving a car where I'm constantly worried its going to strand them while running errands.
