Honestly it seems like a great little overland-lite truck.

Basically poor-man's Tacoma. Enjoy the truck. The fact that it's been rarely updated works to an advantage.

If it's not in diesel and it doesn't have a jake brake it's not a truck.

You will get equal utility from a trailer hooked up to an AWD SUV.

I drive one offroad every day for work, it feels very very cheap but has decent power and I've never gotten it stuck. Honestly there's not much else to say about it, it feels like any other late 90s/early 2000s truck.

It's okay but dated and barebones.

The turn radius and gas mileage suck and the screen gets washed out by light easy but it runs and drives well and was the only V6 I could find for under 450 a month and under 100000 miles.

I'm driving an '08 with 127,000 miles and it's great. It isn't pozzed up with a bunch safety "features". Decently quick, and actually handles pretty darn well. Seats are comfy as fuck.

The pictured pro-4x has a stock rear locker. I have one. An awd would get stuck on the logging roads where I use 4low.

I'm making payments on mine. With 0% interest rate it makes no sense to pay off now. Inflation is real.

IDK some shitty Chinese street tires. They came with it and were relatively new and I'm not changing them until they go bald

There was a time when I really wanted a small cab, 4.0L, RWD, 6-speed one to make into a sort of hot rod truck but that config is rare as hell, never found one and I get lists for every auction in my region. I really like the way that gen looks but the interior is awful.

This is the read I’m getting from most everywhere I look. Seems like a capable, yet spartan, mid size truck.

Kinda similar reason I’m interested in it. I prefer the older-ish vehicles because they pack less “features” in there and I can do more of my own fixes. Between this or a 2019 Ranger (on average about $6k more expensive), what would you suggest?

I think the desert runner model is the RWD version?

I would never buy a Ford; Every person I've known with one has had stupid problems that should never come up, and they tend to rattle themselves apart. My Frontier is nearly 20 years old and runs great and has no rattles. The only wear and tear is on the seats and I can easy put a cover on those.

7 years with my focus ST with zero issues. And I beat the fuck out of that thing. I also picked up a $1500 ranger this year to haul motorcycles and its only issues have been rust related

By your own logic, why bother with the SUV and trailer if the truck does it all the same?
