I just invented this, it's called the X4. It's very thin and designed to lay flat inside the engine bay, basically like the shape of a pizza box. The 4 spark plugs (blue) stick up so they're easy to access. This engine has perfect balance because the horizontally opposed cylinders are boxing.

It's literally a jet engine where the combustion chamber is replaced by a flat 12. If you'd prefer to characterize that as a flat 12 with a compressor and turbine go ahead, I guess. A jet engine is literally just a compressor and turbine with a combustion chamber between them.
