Assuming performance is identical, should you buy the coupe or 4door form?

With modern engineering, is it just style preference?

I carry 4 people only a few times a year, and the extra 2 people are usually kids so they fit in the back very comfortably.
And if an adult does sit back there they can cope for 1 short ride.
My coupe isn't rear engine so it has an insane amount of boot space, fold down the back seats and its basically a 2 door ute.
And then for the majority of the time which is when I'm driving alone, its comfy, light, nimble, and fun. Looks nicer and doesn't feel pointlessly big.
Its honestly the most practical vehicle I've ever owned.

Apparently the 8 series doesn't sell well and it isn't even appreciably bigger than a 4 series - it just I assume has a bigger engine bay to fit a v8 and that's the main difference along with better quality suspension.
If they made it a more practical grand tourer they might sell more.

I’d take the 2 door every single time. Don’t care. Don’t like sedans, just get a crossover and give up at that point.

>>28503863
The 8 coupe didn’t sell well, but the grande coupe does.
>it’s a sedan
Yeah well it has frameles windows, 65/35 front to rear space, lower seating position, lower roof line etc etc. it’s a coupe with four doors.
The 8 was supposed it be part of a special black badges sub brand that was between rolls and BMW but with the EV flop in the 2010s it got cancelled and the 8 became a lazier product with less Rolls amenities in it, the sole hangover being the crystal shift knob.

Anyway it’s a got all the structural carbon fiber of a 7 series, double B suspension, and huge hp. It stops from 100kmh about 4ft more than a hurrican. It had custom brake bias and traction control which was new when it launched and is more and more common.

It was priced to compete with the 911 and Ferrari and imo has value that a 6 didn’t have but that value isn’t present in the interior it’s in the actual build quality so nobody in the market really understood it.

They’re super easy to track as a beginner and they look awesome.

The rear seat is less usable than the 4 and prob the 2 as well bc it lacks that extended rearward roofline. Objectively one fo the best BMWs of the modern era. Needed a limited V12 run though. Shame on BMW for failing to get it through

I've never even seen an 8 gran coupe on the road but maybe that's something for places like Miami or Los Angeles.
>The rear seat is less usable than the 4 and prob the 2
stupid they should have made the coupe like REALLY long like an s class coupe and not tried to compete with 911 since that never works

The M850i and M8 comp have performance comparable to the Panamera Turbo S E and GTS while remaining 80-100k cheaper and just as comfortable. I fucking love the Panamera but it's hard to justify 250k for something that barely beats an M8 and will cost 3x more to maintain.

2 doors are ideal for the bachelor:
>long window, tall dudes can extend seat back without B-pillar getting in vision
>slightly better aerodynamics
>style points
>quicker to use backseat as storage; no need to open/close multiple doors
>cheaper and less parts to go wrong
Pretty much any car could use a 2 door option:
>trucks, for when bed space is a priority
>sedans, for the bachelor
>SUVs, for easier parking and better offroading
>crossovers, also for the bachelor
Why don't crossovers come in 2 door configs anyways? We're already in the malaise era after all, with shitty engines, shitty qc, tacky interiors, and constrastingly colored roofs, at least give us the good parts god damnit

I wonder why don't they come as convertibles though. I could use a little more offroad capability, but most verts sadly sit way too low and don't have any provisions for changing that.
There are two options still in production: Evoque (2 liter underpowered overstressed Ford powerplant for ungodly money) and VW Eos (1.4 FWD turboshitter without any transmission options with torque converters).

Coupes are based apart from the colossal doors. Had to learn to hug the right side of parking spots, and being unable to fling my door open all the way even in my own garage was enough of a pet peeve that I am just as happy with my move to a 4-door. The massive trunk was great, I could fit 2 bales of hay in it.
