Random thought: If electric cars need to squeeze out more range with what little they have, why are MORE power hungry features being added instead of less?

Try to list all of the electric cars with a basic radio, analog gauges, manual steering, etc.

1. Those things don't consume a noticeable amount of power vs the power required to move a 5k lb vehicle at 70mph
2. There is effectively no efficiency loss running electric accessories on an EV from the battery. On an internal combustion car, the engine itself is only 20-30% efficient, and the alternator 50-60% efficient, so more thought has to be put into low voltage current draw on those platforms compared to an EV with a massive power source for them.

They're just toys. They're not built for range, or durability, or usefulness. The dumbass that waste money on them want all of the creature-comforts.

It works perfectly well for people converting old VW bugs. Just bolt in a kit and go.

No power steering
No digital cluster
No regenative braking
No nonsense audio bullshit

...and it works

Because we have to force behavior, duh. Haven't you been paying attention?

People weren't accepting lower living standards fast enough on their own, so we have to force it. That means making everything gay and retarded.

the only things in a car that consume enough to actually matter are a/c and heater, and you won't buy a car without a/c

Do you have any idea how many classic type 1 bugs are restored?

Hint: Most don't have A/C among other things...

Who cares about old converted vws? You asked a question and got an answer. How is the bug relevant at all?
>Why don't EVs have manual windows
>Because power windows use effectively 0 electricity and there would be literally no benefit.
>Uhm well actually this is converted bug has crank windows
Ok Cool

Why don't they have the electric motor drive a transmission for increased efficiency and range?

Because basically all that techslop is mandatory nowadays.
Lane assists, fancy steering and brake assists, tracking and gps, cameras and what the fuck not, it's all mandatory "safety equipment" nowadays.

>>28505891
Opel did that for a concept car. Then they scrapped the idea and instead pushed out yet another EV crossover

It would help reduce bearing wear, but creates parasitic drag. There's a wide allowance on RPM with an electric motor.

Electric cars only exist to make upper middle class people earning 200k+ a year feel smug while they smell their own farts.
When electric vehicles replace mining equipment it is serious business but the front loader i drove today used 680 litres of diesel over 12 hours, that is 40 fully charged Tesla batteries.

So you would need this x40 to run the 50 tonne loader i operated today and then 3 days to charge it
That is an extra 18,000kg and 3 days of down time vs 680kg and 5 minutes of refueling.

Most EVs get around 120 MPGe, and most ICE around 30, so if an electric loader were as efficient, thatโ€™s only 10 battery charges. Not there yet, but maybe once we have solid states.

The 'Keubel Wagen' just a 5,000-pound gas chamber with batteries strapped to it. You donโ€™t see the fuel source, but itโ€™s there.
