Are they really the most fun type of bikes? Which supermoto is the best? Does a powerful but heavy supermoto like KTM 950 and Ducati 950 kinda defeat the purpose of a supermoto? Will a dual sport with road tires be as good as a factory supermoto?

Entirely depends where you ride them. They were designed to race on smaller paved/flatpack tracks, and they excel at courses that resemble that. Now back to /dbt/ with you.

The 950 is a sportbike dressed up as a supermoto. A dual sport with 17s is fine for road use, but not track. The FS450 is the apex predator of supermoto for a reason. Yes, throwing one sideways into a corner after a couple downshifts and then wheelying out is probably the most fun you can have on a bike.
If you're street riding, get a 690/701/698. They have fatter seats and are close enough.
