Slept on for what? It's a good engine, but it's only in like 3 cars. One of which being the new Z, which I have yet to see someone driving around. It's also got way too much electrical baggage to be a candidate for easy swaps

it gets flack mainly for being in an obscure car that didn't really compete with similar cars at it's price point. it also gets a bad rap for the owners complete lack of awareness on how to treat a high performance turbo car. lots stuck a JB4 on it, cranked it to map 6 and then cried when they toasted it. I make about 500hp from mine on Z1 turbos and it's been fantastic. I'll be adding a higher flow HPFP and ethanol flex kit soon and shoot for 700hp. Say what you want but the ease of making power on these is second only to a few engines and it's the best at it's current used market price in q50s and q60s.

It's really not at all though, Q50s are the most common '''foreign''' alternative to the Dodge Charger. Niggas will throw a crackle tune and straight pipe on it then "swim" and "cut up" throuh traffic as they go to hit up the local sideshow

I've just imported a Q50 with VR30DDTT from US, in a few months I'll be able to test it after I finish fixing it (minor front damage, fender, hood and a headlight), queues to the paint shops are insane. On cold start I hear some timing chain rattle, but after a few seconds it goes away, will it stop after I change oil to 5W-30/5W-40? It's still on the 0W-20 and has 130k miles.

are you sure it's chain rattle? the engine ecu commands open wastegate for a 5-10 seconds. that can sound like a rattle. the vr30 switches from open loop to closed loop very quickly. IDK how much having the gates open for that little time can help but I believe it's used as a catalyst pre-heat during open loop. if it is chain rattle, you'll most likely have companion codes related to timing control and misfires. the turbos can also have a rattle on startup but usually has accompanying smoke from the exhaust. do you have a video of the noise? upload it to streamable and post the link here. or you can join one of the q50 pages on facebook. AMS/Racebox/ecutek tuners lurk there often.

The worst place you could have possibly got one from. And with over 100k miles, timing chain rattle and using watery oil? kek, these are some of the most abused and thrashed modern cars here by a longshot. My condolences.

I have one. It's yellow. 6 speed manual. I like it.

I am nervous about the engine though since I don't have a hoist in my garage and the one at my work is quite large and setup for trucks. I had to drive onto the 4 post using multiple 2x4 ramps.

I daily drive it and it amazes me when I put it in 4th gear at 70km/hr and go wide open throttle. It reminds me that I'm only using a fraction of it's power to drive 30 minutes to work in rush hour every day.

No codes, so it might be the wastegates, since it lasts 10-15 seconds max. For the first 30 seconds or so it's also idling a bit high, but it was quite cold last few days, so it might be that. I'll try to record it, but unfortunately it's pissing rain everyday and for time being my garage is occupied.
>>28509836
For what's that worth it was driven by a woman, given the names from infotainment and scratches on steering wheel from rings. Insurer is Farmers Insurance, I don't know anything about them but I'd assume they insure farmers lol. So maybe it wasn't abused by some melanin-positive compadres. Also the state I imported it from is SC, whatever that tells you.

SC, the state that did away with inspections 30 years ago because it cost to much money. A lot of people here just simply don't maintain cars because its a poor state with below average education. Metro areas often being below median US income, but with some of the highest rent-income ratios. People are stuck being in a debt cycle rut, not take care of things, leveraged to the max and without the time to do what they should.

People always sell the VQ/VR cars when a few things have happened :
1.coolant balance pipe on the back of the motor has started to leak and the car over heats as a result.
2.Rear main is pissing out oil, usually when it starts making puddles they get rid of it instead of getting it fixed because of the cost.
3. The valve buckets need to be shimmed and the car is starting to have valve lash sounds at idle, they see the cost to do this at a shop and sell the car.

there is a TSB for that. they replace the pulley and tensioner and belt and realign it. supposed to fix it. also, you must use the gates belt. mine is an 18 year that was resolved but I use this belt and hasn't given me an issue.

I wouldn't get too worked up about it. There's no basketball americans that can drive my car harder than me and it's been fine. there is one real achillies heel to the VR and that's the engine oil pressure control solenoid. it regulates oil pressure in relation to RPM with a MAP load correction factor. if it fails in low pressure mode, you can unwittingly run the car at high RPM at less than 30psi. The failure has no failsafe condition until the p0524 low oil pressure code sets and then it's too late. It can be disconnected and defaults to high pressure mode full time. Many owners do that. It does set a P06DA engine oil pressure control solenoid open circuit code but it doesn't go into limp and doesn't illuminate the MIL. After that, it runs over 45psi all the time. A tune can take care of the P06DA code.

lots of info here on several of the subjects in this thread

NTA but the meme of nobody ever seeing one in the wild is true. I've seen more Dodge EV Chargers, more Hummer EVs, and more LaFerrari's this year than I have 400Z's.

Its a pretty car on the outside, but I think you have to hold onto it for 20-25 years before others will be interested in buying it second hand. Its not the engine holding that car/platform back.

Like a fucked sensor or something fucking up in the BUS system and having to diagnose and figure that out in such a computerized vehicle where everything has such tight tolerance to maximize emission bullshit just mentally fucks with me. I forgot to mention that I have only seen 3 others. I saw a yellow proto a month before it was officially available. I'm assuming it was some youtuber.

After purchasing mine, I noticed a blue one and we both looked at each other. Then I noticed a yellow one in my area that was specced the same as mine and we both waved at each other and my wife laughed saying it was the gayest thing she had seen me do.

I've seen more McClarens, C8 corvettes, Ferraris, C3 corvettes (saw another one today), Supras in all colors both 4th gen and BMW version. And this is just in the last month. Hell, today I saw 5 C8s and 1 Nissan GTR (Last gen, not current).

I've also seen like 50 cyber trucks each with a different wrap.

It's not hard to diagnose and repair a car. I have the diagnostic equipment and skills though. The forums are fucking cancer and full of people going "oh shit, I don't like 0W20 oil, I'm gonna use 10W30 instead because it makes me feel better" or "I have 500miles on this car, I'm gonna replace the intakes and remove the CATs and add a tune to it".

I've helped out countless people with a check engine light because a fucking vacuum line was broken during removal or not put back on properly or a connector was properly seated.
