How do I get a crown vic into Australia? It's my autistic hyper fixation and I want it for my first car

AFAIK the service you're looking for is commonly referred to as "shipping"

How much money have you got and what state are you in?
I'm friends with a guy who has one and is registered in QLD. I know of another in QLD, and one in NSW.

Basically you need to find one over 25 years old in the US, this is the hard part, since they're beaten to shit and junked, since most people consider the newer model years to be better, so finding a 98-00 is harder. My friend has been looking for another one to import, but he hasn't been able to find one in good enough condition for a reasonable price.

There's a film car guy on gumtree in NSW who brings them over and sells them sometimes, think he wants about $25k for them, but they're basically as is, you need to do any repairs needed, compliance it, etc ontop of that. He just finds cheap/old enough ones, ships them over, then makes several grand profit on them. If you do find one already in the country that was brought in for film work years (if not decades) ago, you can resubmit an import approval and get it road legal. However they will probably be beat to shit.

I have been looking for ones for sale on various platforms for over a decade now, and when they do come up, they usually go pretty fast, and over the last few years prices have shot up. I passed up a chance to buy a pair over a decade ago for $5k, one was beat to shit and later destroyed in a film, don't know where the other one ended up (it was in a lot better condition). Now adays that one would probably sell for $15-20k easy.

Why would someone want to have the quintessential fleet vehicle? It's as boring as they come.

$25k savings, unemployed (working on that) and I'm in WA which prob lowers my already low chances right?
I've seen those import police interceptor sites but unsure if it's even legit or worth the hassle, I also forgot about the 25 year import rule
Is the $15k-$20k price the norm for these things here? I was looking on US car markets and getting depressed seeing how cheap most of them are and usually good condition
It's probably unfeasible for a first car right? I even looked into Grand Marquis' but that seems even more impossible
What's the closest equivalent that is easier to get you reckon? I've been looking at older Fairmont and Fairlane models

One thing is buying it because it's cheap and reliable, another thing is importing one from the US and having to pay almost new car prices for it because you absolutely must have one.

Probably is for a first car but I think they are cool too so I get how you feel. One thing that might be worth considering is that they have the Caprice PPV over there which is a late model Statesman/Caprice but LHD, so you could get a normal Aussie one and live the larp with that? Prices are probably bullshit on those too but I haven't looked. You wouldn't have to do any gay import taxes or paperwork though, so maybe it's at least worth looking into a bit to see if it could work for you and scratch the itch. Best of luck whichever way you end up going with it Anon and I hope you get a sick road yacht at the end of it.

I coped by buying an AU Fairlane when I was your age and Vics weren't even close to being legal to import. Now that I am in a position to buy one, I ended up buying a different US cop car and pretty much gave up on the Vic since eh this is good enough.

The VE Caprice/Stato would also be a good choice

Ex-fleet (taxi/limo) V6s with a gorillian Ks can be had for under $10k. If it was me doing it again I'd go for a white one and do an undercover/"lite" build. So just a push bar on front, black steel rims with the Chev centre caps, undercover led lighting setup (amber), maybe the pillar spotlights.

In current year, if one popped up for sale, in GOOD condition, and already road registered/legal, etc all ready to go hop in drive away, somewhere in the mid/late 30's wouldn't be unreasonable.

An ex film car is realistically worth about $10k-20k depending on condition, where you have to go through the whole process of getting it legal and up to road worthy standards etc. Ultimately it's doable on your budget but yeah realistically probably not a great first car, mechanical parts aren't too hard to get (I think the engine was also used in V8 Explorers or something), but if you need any body/glass/etc, you will be out a small fortune shipping parts.
They don't come up for sale too much any more, maybe once or twice a year. Last one I saw was April 2024, it was a 2009 (so not registrable) and sold in a day. Was asking $25k.

This one apparently went to Perth in late 2023/early 2024.
Ad was up for less than a day (by the gumtree film car seller), I sent him a message probably 8 hours after the ad went live, but when he responded in the morning he said it had already sold. So I dunno, maybe this one will show up for sale for you one day.

Don't you cunts have own V8 RWD sedans? I'd understand if a Europeon asked this because domestic V8s have always been a luxury in Yurop.

The police left them idling for 10 years, and then then hoodrats abused them for another 10 years. You missed the boat.

I have seen limo versions being used for weddings for many years in Australia

Bullshit 25 year law was supposed to help the local car industry but now importers like Subaru and Mazda have been lobbying the gov't for years. I have old magazines saying they could bring a car in about 2005 or so for $2500.
We are getting super ripped off, if you watch the hubnut youtube channel I think he said he imported the Falcon from NZ to the UK for something like 5000 gbp.

From what I've read it has to have this asbestos inspection that costs like $3000 but in the end its just some guy with a pressure washer spending 20 minutes to spray it.

>>28507625
We got rid of Holden as police cars and got BMW's because we are soooooo special and european and fancy. I find it funny still seeing US footage where they are still running the caprice now, its shows they don't piss away money as much as us. Some police even have Dodge rams here, where are those fuck heads who kept whining that they are literally too big to fit on the roads now.

>>28507644
Anyway I think its possible it could be cheaper to go the USA to find a nice car, get stuff like windscreen, rubbers, breaks, tailshaft bearing, aircon regas because you know in Aus they will use every excuse they can to make it hard to get it on the road. Maybe find that weird asbestos certificate I keep hearing about.

>>28507566
I have seen a NL Fairlane parked next a mid 90's Grand Marquis, the dimensions HxWxL were very similar visually. I love those old bubble crown vics in tv shows, only in America could a car that was considered cheap transportation have a v8 and be huge.

>>28508396
The only explanation for the idling issue I've found is the oil gets hotter and less circulation. You'd think it wouldn't matter that much but its probably a symptom of a car that was used as much as possible.

>limo versions
Those are Lincoln Town Cars. Those are on the list of approved <25 year old vehicles you can bring in, but will more than likely have to be converted to RHD in most states along with whatever other stipulations there are.
I believe WA has a 15 year law on LHD, so in theory he could import a Town Car up to 2010 and drive it as is, but I'm pretty sure he wants a cop car and the Town Car won't scratch that itch.
Last time I checked the Crown Vic isn't on that list, since someone has to lobby to get it on there, and there isn't really a viable point to it like Town Cars, since they're used as limos, so it makes sense people went to the effort to get them on the list. I don't know what it takes to get a car on there, I gave up a long ago and just figured sticking to 25 year old cars is significantly easier for importing and compliance plating, since beyond seatbelts and indicators, you don't need to modify anything else as they're considered historic/antique/enthusiast/whatever.

It's the SEVS list I'm referring to btw (Specialist and Enthusiast Vehicles Register)

I'm thinking for well bellow the price of importing you can get a decent fairlaine although the luxury parts wouldn't be up for the thrashing
