Looking at Jaguar XE
and wanted to know are 2.0 ingenium diesel engines really a time bomb or is it just a meme?

Why bother with a diesel Jag? Their strength is excellent V6 and V8 driving experiences. There's more luxurious interiors and more reliable engines available from other manufacturers.

It looked cool and went a long ways on one tank when Clarkson drove one on Top Gear

Don't buy diesel Jags. Jag does gasoline engines very well. Diesels? They're an afterthought that came about with the express purpose of improving their corporate mpg average. By a V6 or a V8 Jag. It will be much more reliable.

The engines themselves seem fairly sturdy, as far as I've heard. It is a Jag though.
The low-power version has an insanely good fuel efficiency.
Only been in an XE once though, and that sucked because the legroom in the rear is non-existant.
