Even the trash automatics are more desirable since you can manual-swap them). But by the time they got to the mk6 cars, the DSGs were solid. There's a reason that the 2012 passat was sold with a normal 6 speed auto when paired with a 2.5 L gas engine, but only the DSG for the 2 L diesel. VAG also should get a little credit for explicitly telling customers that transmission fluid and filter changes are mandatory every 40k miles, while other manufacturers were insisting on the 'life time fluid' bullshit.
There are mk6-7 TDIs rocking the original engine and DSG at 300k+ miles these days. Granted, most of those cars haven't been tuned for retarded torque values and redlined all day, but the point stands. They are solid, but have a maintenance schedule that includes fluid/filter every 3 years and a DMF replacement at around 200k.
