Ive got a Datsun L28 I'm building, stock cam for now, and I already have this set of long tube headers from MSA. They're set up as two sets of three that merge into a single Y. I had seen videos of people experimenting with true dual setups on four cylinder engines, and it dramatically changes the sound, and I wonder what it would do to a straight six. I wouldn't do completely separate pipes though, I was thinking about an H pipe in the middle and a resonator and muffler for each pipe. I haven't seen this exact setup anywhere and am wondering why? How bad do you think it would affect scavenging? Do you think it could sound interesting or sound like garbage? I'm tempted to just tac weld some pipe together just to find out. The reason I'm interested in this idea at all is because when I installed my headers, my ground on my welder failed, so I impatiently drove the car to a friends shop to have the down pipe made, and having the two exits dump right at my feet sounded insane. I've always wanted to replicate it in a proper way.

Is there enough room for that? Itโ€™s dark so Iโ€™m not going to check my 280zx undercarriage to be sure.

>Do you think it could sound interesting or sound like garbage?
Garbage. Wait โ€˜till you hear an L series engine without a muffler. Itโ€™s like a worse stereotype of a fart can Honda.

>Is there enough room for that?
I believe so, yes. I have had mine on the lift many times and looked at it carefully. It would be a tight fit for sure though.

>Garbage.
Without a muffler, yes, of course. That's why I said I would have a resonator and muffler for each pipe. I'm not building a rice machine.

from what i've seen, the 90s bmws are apparently a true dual exhaust system (i believe they share one big resonator or muffler, but the internals are still baffled at least somewhat to keep things split) so make of that what you will

You want 1-3-5 into one and 2-4-6 into one. Then, a two into one, and some reduces in between each. No muffler. Thank me later.

I honestly don't read all that shit (by op). Just "skimmed I6. Exhaust noise". But slap an 2-2 (X pipe) in there as well. Go ahead and make it asymmetric. Scavenging and resonance will happen whether you like it or not. Tuna isn't real. Just send it.

That's not true duals then. And it'll significantly effect the noise.

Also tuning for sound instead of power is big gay, stop being a fag.

Like this.
Two 3 to 1 manifolds, dual pipes running back into a 2 in 2 out primary muffler, then one resonator on each pipe then a 2 in 2 out back box.

For scavenging you'll want to merge them. Sound-wise you'd basically be running a pair of I3s in parallel, go read some Giulia Quadrifoglio reviews to see what people think of that.

i would because generally being obnoxiously loud just sounds shit regardless. if the guy in that vid had put in a stock muffler or flowmasters that are a bit louder than stock it'd sound pretty nice

Scavenging would go to shit, and it'd probably sound like a trumpet. You'd want pretty small tubes to match the flow of your new 3cyl exhaust groupings. H pipe for maximum tone.
