How retarded is it to buy a box truck over a pickup if I frequently need to haul things like dirt bikes, home improvement projects, etc?

Plus: Your stuff won't be out in the weather or on view to brownoids.
Minus: You don't have a truck.

Ever tried sleeping in a pickup bed?

I usually sleep at home like a normal person. I think the express 3500s in box truck configuration still have like 8klbs of towing too, so I'm failing to see the downsides here.

If you have a Sawzall you can turn it into a pickup.

Infinitely more practical than a pickup, but no surprise there since most pickups are just suburbanite lifestyle accessories not intended for actual work.

box trucks are usually fleet vehicles, you'll fiind really dumb shit like the light wiring on penske trucks looking like speaker wire plugs, hitches welded directly to the bumper, balls welded to the hitches, etc. if you are buying a uhaul i'll tell you now none of them have 6.0's, they are all, ALL 4.8's. you will want a backup camera and you will not fit in drive-thrus. if you arent getting a 14' dually box just get a regular cargo van, 10' boxes on singles are pretty dumb. uhaul 14'ers are fords with the ohc v10, its huge and pain in the ass to work on under that doghouse

realistically you'll never need anything larger than a pickup for home improvement or dirtbikes

You'll find out quick the 10' and 14/15' box trucks aren't as big as they seem. They're great for like, frozen food or shipping freight such as printer supplies inside of a city, if you own a business. They're dogshit for personal use, especially in rural areas that see gravel roads, or thick goopy clay when it rains. At that point you're better off getting a pickup or suv daily like a suburban or sequoia or an express van and just renting a cheap uhaul the couple times a year you need one. If you actually do need an extended bed length regularly, buying a cheap trailer with a 16-20' bed makes much more sense than trying to daily a fucking box truck. Bigger deck too. If it's not a daily driver then you're wasting your time on it anyway because you have extra insurance and registration for it. If it's a 3500+ (out here anyway) you pay a commercial add on for yearly registration too.

I think your registration will be more (not sure on this) and having to park in the city would be a bitch, with low-hanging trees and not being able to use parking structures, but otherwise it doesn't sound like a bad idea. Penske gets rid of fleets of these motherfuckers, every few years.

It's fashionable for the time being. Debt slaves have this weird compulsion to be competitive and see who is the best debt slave.

Would the things you're hauling not fit in a work van like the Chevy Express? That would be way more practical on a day to day basis.

Can't be used for fragile groceries unless you bungee it inside the box.
Can't recline the seat comfortably.
Worse ride quality.
Unusable offroad.
Diabolically dogshit on backroads.

Check your local bylaws. It's illegal to drive or park personal cube vans in a lot of neighborhoods.

Not technically. The only things not Isuzu on them are the engine and trans if it is the gasser. Everything else is straight up Isuzu. If a diesel nothing on it is chebby.
