Just finished my first oil change in my own garage. I know it's no biggy but I was so proud. When I was under the car I wish the job never ended, I felt so good working on my car.
2016 Ford Escape SE (it's a hand-me-down)
>>28512006 (OP)Good for you man, it's the starting point.
Might go back to doing my own services these days, 2/3 of the bill is literally labor costs and the rest are overpriced parts. Only thing that is cheaper to outsource are oil changes when I get coupons.
>>28512006 (OP)Keep it up. Oil change/air filter/belt/plugs and brakes and you just saved yourself a fucking ton of cash.
Congrats bro, you just saved 20 bucks and wasted an hour. Now make sure you go out of your way again to safely dispose the oil
>>28512168It's not about saving money, it's about the guarantee that I did the job right. Lube technician kids often close the plug earlier and don't drain all the oil. I also put in good oil and a good oil filter.
>>28512168>Now make sure you go out of your way again to safely dispose the oilHe can go to Autozone or any similar store with the used oil in bottles. Sour grapes
>>28512006 (OP)based wrenchlet, welcome to manhood, where you dont depeond on anyone unless absolutely necessary life or death type of shit.
>he didn't remember to change the oil filter as well
>10s ford hatch
Probably has a sump plug due as well
>>28512197>good oil filter.never gave half a shit about the oil filter but my intervals I stick to are like, 3000 miles or 3500 miles if I really got lazy
>>28512197>Lube technician kids often close the plug earlier and don't drain all the oil. I also put in good oil and a good oil filter.Depends on the car. Mine uses a Duratech 2.5L so Motorcraft filters can be found practically anywhere. Now if I had a vehicle that has high output and 11 quarts of oil, I'll do the service by myself, because it'll probably need a nicer oil filter that they won't supply.
>>285125244.5k - 5k for me. If the scheduling doesn't work out, I do it early.
>>28512622Depending how I drive I can get oil changes in every 300 kms
>>28512006 (OP)>I wish the job never endedOvertighten the oil filter, that'll keep you there a good half hour longer on your next oil change.
>>28512168and no receipt to prove it was ever done to a potential buyer
>>28512621You can bring your own oil and filter and tell them to use that.
Please always practice safe jack-stand use, and always give the car a little 'wiggle' once its in the air, to make sure it wont slip on the stands. Never use the jack with no jack-stands for a 'quick look underneath' or any excuse. From your pic you look secure, just keep that a hard rule. Welcome to wrenching on your own shit, you'll save a ton of money. Youtube and haynes manuals are good shit, don't let friends borrow any tools.
t. Had a friend die in front of his girlfriend when his b18 powered civic crushed his chest. He was just getting under to reconnect a single wire, the jack seal burst and dropped the car on him.
>>28512168If you don't burn your old oil for heat your gay
>>28512246The filter is good for 10k miles and I only changed my oil at 5k.
>>28514349Yeah and tranny fluid is lifetime
>>28514308>don't let friends borrow any toolsHaving raped my wallet today buying my second jack and air compressor I feel obliged to second this to OP
>>28512006 (OP)
>>28514308Damn about your friend. For the same reason I also dont trust flimsy jack stands. Large wood blocking for me.
>>28512679Indeed. Newys should use a thin film of triple guard on the rubber seal and try not to do too many rotations after hand right with the filter wrench
