Jap cars were also still relatively inexpensive and there's some 'survivor bias' stuff going on here with ANY of the JDM/USDM cars that you routinely see on the road today.
An IROC Z-28 camaro was kinda crap on the inside but they do capture the 80's vibe well and nostalgia still sells.
For example: I would've NEVER bought an 80s Camaro back then but I'd consider it today purely because it captures the vibe of an era.
