When did american late 70s and 80s cars become cool? I remember people used to say they were pieces of shit and to buy a japanese car instead

When people realized all the thrashed ones were in scrap heaps and there were less and less unmolested examples

When Cyrus rocked up in his C3 and people needed that TPB aesthetic.

I've seen that car IRL.
It doesn't look even remotely that good in person.
The photographer cooked those photos pretty hard in Photoshop.
Last I heard that car is parked in a underground parking lot rotting away.

I remember the exact opposite 20 years ago. People used to say that those rice burner japscrap imports were pieces of shit, and to buy an American car with a V8 instead. "Import vs. muscle" was serious, it meant more back then than political parties mean now.

I'd never learned about Cyrus until after I got one and now I can't separate myself from the stigma

you were talking to faggots and cucks retard
notice how few 80s/90s jap cars are getting put back on the road compared to turd gens and foxbodies.
fuck near none of them, cause they were shitty and slow and rusted the fuck away because jap steel is of poor quality and their rust proofing was so bad that they didn't even survive in the south.

Because at the time (coming out of a democrat recession economy and coming out of 70's malaise garbage from US mfg) there was high value placed on reliability and TCO over performance.
Jap cars were also still relatively inexpensive and there's some 'survivor bias' stuff going on here with ANY of the JDM/USDM cars that you routinely see on the road today.
An IROC Z-28 camaro was kinda crap on the inside but they do capture the 80's vibe well and nostalgia still sells.
For example: I would've NEVER bought an 80s Camaro back then but I'd consider it today purely because it captures the vibe of an era.
Does this help you understand or do you remain ignorant?
