They stopped doing wood interiors because it was heavy and getting too expensive. We cut way too many trees but forgot that planted wood isn't as good in quality as trees from a naturally grown forest. Wood quality for construction material has been going downhill since the early 1950s. So you either pay up for a scarce resource or get a piece of shit artificial piece of wood thats literally worse than the stuff from the past.

Unless you are building a performance machine, interior materials are not structural materials. The petroleum resins your car is made of right now are not strong either.
A good interior material needs to be well insulating and good looking, and wood ticks those boxes.
It is also nice if it is economical, and wood ticks that box too. And also ticks the 'does not decompose in a hot sun' box as well.
And if you *do* need a performance material with insulating properties, well, you can take any source of woody material, dissolve the lignin, and sinter it to polymerize the cellulose, leaving you with an extremely strong densified material in the desired shapes.
The gods create a world full of solutions but mortals fuck around instead.

Crying about old growth vs new growth in construction is so dumb because we can literally just use more of it to get the same result. Houses today are no weaker than old houses despite having softer wood because they just use more studs. So there is literally nothing to complain about here.

There are also very strong modern engineered wood products like laminated veneer lumber that exceed the strength of old growth timber to use in high stress areas. Not only is it stronger, but has no irregularities, doesn't warp, doesn't rot, and doesn't get eaten by termites. And it comes in shapes and sizes that trees couldn't dream of. We have exceeded nature already so I'm not sure why you're crying.
