Sunroof
md5: daa9ec2c557fa6ac668a5894cb146510๐Ÿ”
I'm currently shopping for a new car and one of the biggest pains in the ass I find daily are these massive gaping holes in the top of the vehicle. In return for losing in most case inches of headroom, you get the "luxury" of having your scalp cooked by the sun if you choose to actually use one. Hell, they have even changed the branding to "moonroof" just to make it seem more appealing. It seems like dealers are starting to order these more often as a premium feature. Even worse, for some premium add-ons like nicer speakers and better upholstery, you HAVE to get the sunroof. I want to call out Honda in particular here, because on their vehicles like the Accord, you HAVE to get the sunroof unless you get the poverty model. It's disappointing because it would probably be the vehicle I would go with if it wasn't for such an annoying "feature." Don't even forget about the additional proneness to leaks a sunroof adds.
Tell me /o/, do you actually enjoy these? Or do you find them burdensome like me on a vehicle?

Fun fact: The vast majority of cars are used only twice by an owner. The first is when they test it to see if it works and the second is to prove it works when the car is being sold.

Love the sunroof in my old s12. its 40 years old, never leaks, never has issues. Unless its raining I always had it open to the vent setting.

It sounds like all this is a you problem.

Sun/moon roofs are kino in old barges but really just fall flat in anything else
>Sports car? Why not a vert or targa?
>New car? Can't use it, laminar flow gets disrupted into turbulent at the opening point and blows out your ears.
For you I'd recommend just getting and older car; if you hate the roof hatch you'll HATE everything else

From what I understand a sunroof is the small window with a hardtop and a moonroof is a much larger window usually with a sliding screen. I still agree, I don't find any use in them and am always wary of leaks since my car had the drainage hose get clogged and unplugged, there's still a water stain on my headliner where it was dripping down.

sunroof was a lifesaver when AC broke in my 30yo camry, dark green is a nighmare in summer and only way to keep the temperature in acceptable norms was a slight opening that vented out hot air for 8 hours on office parking lot

as a bmw chad i don't bother with the sunroof vs moonroof debate, as for me it's obviously a PANORAMIC roof. i enjoy it for the daily but wouldn't want it on any more special car unless the purpose is fully non-sporty. if you cruise in it, it's gotta have some type of opening at the top. now on my E91 i've had it break in the tilted position and then had it fully replaced with a refurbished one for about 700 bucks including a tip and coffee+cake for the guy and his wife who did it. i like to keep it tilted any time i'm going below 140kmh cause it's so nice for fresh air without a draft around the ears and in tunnels i can hear the car without cracking the windows. it also fully retracts (INTO the car roof, not outside of it like those modern perro caca type cars where it sticks out) which is nice for driving at night and in the mountains. and idk why your head would get scorched by the sun, does yours not come with movable light shades? lmao. lol even.

ps. it won't start leaking if you clean and maintain it, imagine denying yourself great pleasure because you're not willing to take a little more responsibility

sunroofs/moonroofs are overrated garbage that will cause water leaks into car, if these leaks are not fixed on time then comes the comes risk of mold, premature metal rust from interior to exterior. In fairly modern cars, including old luxury cars(like 20 year old Audi) as one example even electrical issues because there are computer modules at the interior floor under the fabrics, so with water leak to interior will cause these computer modules to get soaked by water.
In some countries with mandatory periodic safety inspections the same rules that have been made for front windshield also apply(excluding washing, wiper) to sunroof/moonroof so if theres cracks, damages from rocks at the sunroof/moonroof then you are required to fix those damages before your car can pass the inspection.

If the car does have properly working AC system, theres no need for sunroofs/moonroofs, cooled seats. Just dont wear black, dark blue/navy, dark green color clothes during hot summer times so you dont get burned up by direct sun light so much.

the bmw chud actually gets it right on this one. there's a sublime pleasure in driving a car with a glass panoramic roof or glass slide/tilt during a rainstorm.
And when it's too hot you simply engage the shade screen and it's still perfect for parking in brutally hot environments by tilting it up to let heat escape.
Movable glass roof w/sunshade is the final boss of true functional elegance in automotive design and if you disagree, you're simply wrong.

I'm mostly with you. The only part is like is being able to do the tilt thing, helps cool the car down faster on a really hot day. I've had a few cars with moonroofs and I don't think I've ever driven around with the glass closed but the shade open, I think I'd be more open to the old-school kind where it's just a metal panel that opens (which also usually takes up less headroom) but nobody does those anymore.

My first car had a real moonroof, an aftermarket glass that would pop up on the rear or would pop out and slide back. and I loved it. It had a manual shade that I could put it, never did. Second car didn't and I missed having one. Truck has a sunroof, it will pop up or will slide back into the body, and I enjoy it quite a bit. I open it every time I go for a drive and it's nice out. It has a built in shade I can slide closed if I want.

Sunroof is kino. Makes the cabin feel more open. Natural light feels great. Also, if I DON'T see a sunroof on your car, it's a great indicator I'm dealing with a poorfag. Unless it's a sportscar or something, but as a general rule this is pretty reliable.

Ideally I try to avoid them if possible. Theyโ€™re something extra to break or leak. My beater 04 Camry has one and maybes it not bad out of like four days a year but itโ€™s closed 99% of the time. My Hellcat doesnโ€™t have one so thatโ€™s a plus.

You should try going outside more often. Scalp burns happen to people with long hairs as well, right along your parting. If you have low density hair it's even easier if you spend long enough time in direct sunlight. Even then spending enough time outside with direct sunlight will damage your hair from the heat, which isn't a problem for short haired people but for long haired it kind of is a big deal. Thats' why so many women have to get chops between heat damage, uv, dying, and otherwise miscare
>>28516702
I'm not reading OP, but sunroofs are retarded. You have to pay more for them. They introduce long term maintenance headaches. In summer they actively cook you alive in warm climates, which leads to you just closing them anyway. The airflow they can provide isn't even that beneficial if you're in slow traffic. For long haired people they will fuck your entire style up if you open them. Just like convertibles it's a cool gimmick a few times and then you realize it actively sucks in a lot of conditions.
