You should hold a not-current maserati key, like a 2021. You can thwack people with those

agree. but the nice thing is proximity lock/unlock.
while it was mildly annoying as I had to generate one office key to go with each fob, it ensured that I"d have the key regardless of what vehicle I selected for the day.
In the end it is quite liberating and I suggest you give that a try.

I don't get why there isn't a big aftermarket for key fobs. Mine look ratty and I want a cool looking set of keys.

Those era fords, and I believe Chevrolets as well, suffered from ignition cylinder wear at a high rate. Not sure if it was a faulty design or even recalled, but it was at the time that (mainly women) would put a million things on their keychain and a 2 foot lanyard. The weight caused the cylinder to fail after 6 digit mileage or just before.

No damn clue. The fobs from the 90's are small and ultra light. Surely 30 years of advancement would make an even smaller, lighter, longer lasting, and more feature rich product no?

To add, many of the 90's ones, such as my C4 corvette, also have proximity lock/unlock
...PROXIMITY lock/unlock. The kind that uses distance-to-vehicle instead of door handle induction. The kind whose range depends on air humidity and temperature. The kind which turns on and off repeatedly whenever you're approaching/leaving your car for groceries or to work on it
But again, it werx. And again, 30 years of tech dev
