I can accept phasing out gasoline only vehicles for hybrids, which in my opinion(desu) have no downsides except for weight.
But fully electric vehicles have so many insurmountable issues that going all in on them seems like signing your own death warrant.

US is currently hampering its own internal development by placing regulatory burdens on any new lithium mining. Its further placing burdens on EVs by subsudizing trillions per year for oil development and further trillions per year more in health cost related to co2 pollution and and noise pollution from the combustion car.
