why would you not move it under or above the curve where it doesnt disrupt the flow? Ive seen only a couple brands do the sensible thing, like volvo and hyundai but they also have it on some models.

By stamping a tiny piece of steel to match the body lines because the filler door had to be there to fit everything else? Is that what you're on about?

yea because they made it into a thing. You think they dont plan it out? You think they build the car and then say "now lets see where the filler door gets stamped"

You think they designed a fuel filler door to "look impressive" or some shit just because it isn't flat and made a whole thread about it.
That's really all I need to say.

idk what this monstrosity has to do with the thread, but absolutely the attempts to seam panels in contrived ways is a perceived flex for manufacturers.

youโ€™re right OP. itโ€™s weird how the standard for integrating the fuel port cover is so low. seems like only tesla actually put effort into integrating it with the body lines.
and sure maybe they have more leeway in charge port location than gasoline vehicles do but itโ€™s still odd how little effort they put in across the board.

Just a guess but it's possible that the crease makes the filler door rigid enough to save some shekels on its inner structure. Or they needed a big door to fit various types of charging adapters.
Hideous car for many other reasons and i agree the charger door is suboptimal.

I-
That korean POS has a body line "seam" that goes into the filler door much like that BMW, it's hard to see in that pic but it's there. It was the first car I thought to look up and it had it. There are plenty of cars with non-flat filler doors. It's not BMW being pretentious, if anything it's BMW doing cost savings.

i didnt mean to single out bmw, ive seen most brands do this. I guess its possible its a cost thing, but then why do some economic models not have this. Especially with electric cars where theres more leeway where the filler can be placed. Im complaining its over pinched areas not that its not flat.
