how Chinese is this stuff likely to be? the reviews are all good but they were probably all written shortly after install, and not after six months of use. what's an actually reputable vendor that's not gonna take an arm and a leg?

Barely 4 stars and you think that means it has good ratings?
You are better off getting parts from a junk yard.

it's just metal right? how bad could it possibly be?
the real question though is "are you okay with opening it all back up and doing it again if it breaks"?
if the answer is 'yes' then save $150.
if the answer is 'no' then spend more on yukon or something similar.

yeah aluminum is just metal too. my concern is the likelihood of it being chinese potmetal. it says made in USA but that's easy to fib. I looked up yukon and it's about double the price which honestly isn't bad considering I've seen up to $700. I'm also up in cuckistan which might limit availability

You're probably joking, but here's an iron-carbon (steel) phase diagram for the lurkers.

you could alternatively go with yukon or moser, I don't think usa standard gear is the lowest of the low but I'd be hesitant.

The point was to show people that they don't understand it and it's a lot more complicated than just "steel" and "aluminum" being one set thing. So the post worked I guess.

Moser makes weak axles though.
They bend like crazy
Although they don't break.
Something I've been dealing with is pad knock back from flexi Moser 10 bolt axle shafts.

I read that shit in a chinese accent. I'd look on rockauto for the set. Either way, google "[brand name] quality reddit" and look through the results. Reddit is the new google for scrub-level technical info.

I'm using 28 spline axles and doing Track/AutoX on slicks.
I doubt you'd flex enough to cause pad knock back on street tires

Machinist fag here.
>go to their website
>check a bunch of pages
>nothing anywhere says "Made in USA"
>look at job listings
>no machinist positions, all warehouse and office staff
>video about their QC just shows an office, a warehouse, and an inspection room
>blatantly say all of their parts are made outside the company
>4 complex gears with spline drives and a precision shaft that all need heat treating for $108 to consumer
>made by third parties that already put a markup on them
They're 100% made in China at the least, no US shop could make all that for that price unless they're shitting out millions of them. The material cost alone for all of that is in the $30-40 range unless you're buying steel by the semi-truck.

Its raw metal put under cnc. It should ideally cost no more than $20 total.

if you're a parts manufacturer servicing effectively the globe via amazon you should probably be buying steel by the semi truck

I'm sure their actual suppliers are, but it only gets so cheap. 500ibs of basic, hot roll 4340 to 25,000ibs from our supplier is only ~10% price difference. Point is, you're not making a single one of those pieces except the washers for $20, let alone the whole kit in the US.
