basically i want/ need a truck and the 2 that are in my price class and available in my area are the chevy s10 (2.2L manual) and the ford ranger (2.5 turbodiesel manual). I mostly need them to take me to and from worksites on winter roads, aswell as transporting dirtbikes construction supplies etc. Im allso 194cm and worried that i wont fit comfortably in either. pic rel are the gens im looking at.

S10s are far more rare than Rangers.

You want the turbo diesel. It has way, way more torque than the s10's 2.2L.

Because theyre trash.
And this isnt a Ford vs Chevy vs Dodge thing.
I have a GMT400 (and F series and Rams)
But the S10 suffered from GM corporate mentality of "offer something cheap that we can cut corners on to fill that market niche".

there are all types of trucks here, japanese are more sougth after. I really want a hilux but htose come at a premium that puts them outside of my priceclass. these 2 are the cheapest trucks you can get that are in decent shape.

I'm about 2cm shorter than you and a Ranger fits me fine. The extended cab is the better option. We never got the turbo diesel in the states, but if it comes with the same transmission, just be warned about the pilot bearing and the clutch slave cyl. Replace EVERYTHING in there if the transmission has to be dropped. Awesome little truck otherwise.

You've got more options with the S10 like the crew-cab, ZR5, Xtreme, SS, etc. then all the GMC and Oldsmobile versions on top of those. Plus you can make them stupid fast by plopping in a 350 or any LS motor with endless transmission options for dirt cheap. Ford Rangers are overpriced boomer garbage with no room for improvement or flexibility.

In the burgerland salt belt all of the S10s ended up off the road for various reasons well before the Rangers. You see Rangers all over the road and used market but very few S10s. I had a 2004 S10 that overheated due to a misdiagnosed thermostat failure. The 4.3L was awesome, rest of the truck ok. A decade later I now have an 03 Ranger with the 2.3L gas and 5 speed, love it to pieces. I think you'll have enough room with the seat cranked all the way back. My knee does hit the turn signal stalk when I go for the clutch sometimes, but that's the worst of it.
