That sounds like a lot, but idk how many there are in Euro land.
>How rustproof are these bitches?
Cast iron in salt water
>And the 4 liter 6 cilinder reliable?
Very, as long as you don't overheat it and top the oil up. They leak in the back. Transmissions, even the 4 speed auto are also solid. Everything else will break just to fuck with you.
God I miss my Cherokee sometimes.

American cars are expensive in europoorland, and fuel is expensive too so its a lose lose situation, but still its a cool car.

You had one yea? Engines i can fix but rust is my achilles heel

>and fuel is expensive too so its a lose lose situation
Well just remember these things have the aero of a brick and only 4 gears. I've got a bit of a lead foot, but I got 14mpg city and 18, 20mpg at best on the highway.
>You had one yea? Engines i can fix but rust is my achilles heel
Yeah I used to have a '92. If you find one without rust, just keep it clean and waxed/undercoated and it should be fine but they're pretty notorious for the floor panels and fenders just disintegrating outside of the desert. As for the engine, like I said as long as you don't let it overheat they pretty much never die. I've heard of them going 500-600k/km or more without rebuilds. It's been a long time but just a few things off my head.
>rear end of the engine likes to seep small amounts of oil, it's normal
>unfortunately the starter is right under the leak so that tends to fuck it eventually
>seriously don't let it overheat make sure the fans and everything are working right
>idk if the design changed since '92 but the little, plastic clip for the door lock rods in mine snapped with the door locked, pull the door panel and check them
Spent 2 years crawling in from the passenger side, never was able to get the door open. Kid I sold it to told me he ended up kicking the ever living fuck out of it and it popped open.
>if it's 4WD and assuming euros got the same system, you have to be moving for it to engage from 2WD to 4WD, iirc it's anything between 8 and 80km/h
>replace the gas struts on the hatch, just do it, they're cheap, almost gave myself a concussion because one of mine suddenly failed
>if it's stock they handle better than you might think, mine would do 160km/h without issues it just took 2 days to get up there

I looked for several months before finding mine (USA pre-cash4clunker so cheap and lots of options though).
Ended up with a 99 since I think it's the best year, new style interior, body colored bumpers, high pinion d30 front and chrysler 8.5" rear with 29 spline axles and.. iron block plus iron head so overheating is less immediately traumatic.
Body rust is individual to the vehicle and shoud definitely be high on your list of things to check but hte panels were galvanized so it's not complete disintegration like some truck from the 70's.
I saw a few Xj's in the netherlands and they're small enough that its a workable vehicle there (not like a crew cab pickup or something) and it has a short wheelbase so easy to park and turn in, etc.
Parts are easily available and trivial cost but I had very few issues with mine and nothing that I couldnt fix (besides AC since I dont have the equipment) but it is a 26yr old vehicle so shit will be breaking on you.. although unlikely to be the engine or transmission. just change all fluids when you get it.
Fuck tho... I'd sell you mine for 8000 euros and it only has 155k miles on it.

Is that a diesel? Thats the reason. I would pay like 200-300euro road tax a month or something.

Nobody wants diesel here so they sell cheap

Hmmm maybe the 8k is too much than.
I agree they are not huge, theyโ€™re usefully shaped and sized

Thx for the info. You keep talking about not overheating them, a normal car doesnt overhead, right. This cherokee has bad cooling or something?

No, if everything is working as it should, they're fine. It's just the one thing that does fuck those engines and it does it *fast* because it's a big I6 that puts off a lot of heat.

The only other thing is if you think youre going to modify it, dont go any higher than maybe a 2" lift if you're trying to keep your costs low. Above that, too many things start becoming problematic and must be solved (susp and drivetrain angles, wheel offset, gearing etc.)
Compared to modern cars theyre remarkably small vehicles on the inside and out but you get a lot of capability with folding seats and a very square shape to everything. Downside is you'll probably die if you get hit by anything the size of a qashqai.

They rust, and they had poor safety ratings when new. Today it's a bit of a deathtrap. So are most older cars. But this is worse than most.

The 4.0s are base on a very, very old design with newer heads/fuel injection. They're extremely durable. The 4's also seem to be pretty fucking tough. Buddy of mine but 285,000 miles on his, before the wrangler died of body cancer. Parts are dirt-cheap in the US, but in Europe? Don't know - I thought most of the european models came with diesels.
