anon with the newport, did you ever have to take off the door trim panels? how annoying is it? i need to unfuck the windows because they're really hard to wind up and down and the quarter window can be pushed open/closed by hand, but seemingly only to the limit of the crank handle (it kind of acts like a one way valve/clutch)
If someone made a replica of an old car body by sculpting sheet metal and fitted it to a tube chassis and then used a carb engine would it still count as classic by your guys standards?
>have old car
>parts dont exist for it
>no junkyards inventory
what do?
I about to start 3d printing tail lights since its impossible to get parts for less common cars.
>>28521463In a world where all types of conversios exist I don't see why you couldn't just Frankenstein's monster the car and force parts from other cars to just "work" on it.
>>28521463see if there's a local plastic injection moulding shop that can remake tail light lenses for you. i got a free set for mine because the guy hadn't made a copy of my car's lenses yet
>>285214661st gen Toyota Corona
some parts I can find since theyre the same as the Corolla, Carina, Celica. But many parts I cannot
>>28521478That gen wasn't sold in the USA. Sorry, can't help you dawg.
>>28521478fugg, a toyoPET corona? damn. looking at the taillights of those, injection moulding shops will have no trouble making repros.
>>28521488injection molding shops will make small batches? do i need to supply the mold? i assumed theyd only large amounts
>>28521487they were sold in the US
>>28521499look into ones that specialise in remaking lamp lenses for classic cars, they have the equipment to make new ones from your old lenses (hopefully they're intact enough) without requiring a minimum order.
my originals had been UV damaged after decades and decades of exposure to the elements, but the guy was still able to use them to make some very nice repros. i let him keep the lenses because i had no use for them anymore.
>>28521509honestly even if i did think of selling it to some boomer (or hoarding it like one) i doubt i'd get much for it. they were pretty shot so a repro would've straight up looked far better
>>28521342 (OP)You know, Christianity gave us classic cars.
>>28521478You bought that car without knowing where or how to get parts?you thought it would be like finding parts for a crown vic or what?
Holley 4160 side hung floatsโฆ.would a float set too low or too high be a symptom of a rich part throttle condition?
>>28521728it was cheap and it still runs fine.
>>28522711this sentence doesn't even make sense, but if your floats are set wrong it will run like shit
>>28522711Maybe, but if the float level is fucked up you would notice it most at idle.
Just set your level properly.
>>28521342 (OP)>1985Nice try s10nigger, trip back on
>>28522711The higher the float level the easier it is for fuel to get pulled into the throats.
Most times when a Holley is really rich you've either got trash in a needle and seat, usually the rear one, or the power valve is blown. Sometimes both. Pull the sight plugs and if fuel pours out that's a problem. Pull the needle assembly and clean it. Note how many threads are showing before pulling the needle assembly and put it back that way. Use petroleum jelly on the o-ring when going back together or you could tear the o-ring and cause yourself a problem that mimics the original and sending you in diagnostic circles trying to find some other problem that doesn't exist.
>>28521463eBay, autojumbles, owner's groups on Facebook and forums, etc., etc. My 4 Litre R and my dad's V8 Pilot are exclusively owned by pensioners, so often times the only place we can find shit is at car shows and autojumbles, where some old guy has just decided to sell off the parts he's been hoarding in his garage for the last 50 years. Pic rel is all the spares that came with my dad's Pilot, the PO just kept buying shit as and when he found it at autojumbles, including stuff that's arguably only good for scrap. God knows what would've happened to it all if he died before we bought the car, the kids probably would've just scrapped it all, good or bad.
>>28523760just imagine how many n bombs have been dropped in that thing casually. what an exquisite piece of automotive history
ford guys, do you like real high boys, or would you prefer a 78/79 with a small lift?
the high boy has the cool factor, but i feel like 78/79 is a better truck overall
Hello everyone. I've never had a classic car. Do you think it would be a good idea to get a Volvo 144? It can be had for 13-14k. I would use it to drive to the supermarket on Saturday.
>>28523760the thing about a classic car is that you'll never be the first person to fart in that seat. you can get it reupholstered, clean the fart fog off the windows, and soil it yourself, but you'll just be pretending you were the first
>>28524696imagine getting jealous about farting
>>28524743I'll one up you on that one(nta btw) imagine getting mad about farts in cars that aren't Misty from Pokemon being the perpetrator of said farts.
I can't afford an engine rebuild but my engine is knocking and I'm too scared to drive it because the engine will grenade any moment and leave me stranded.
>>28521373fuck. well i took off the door card and just as confirmed, the vent window regulators are fucked. the plate that holds down the winding screw popped off and i need to drill out the broken rivets.
pic related isn't mine but is exactly what happened to mine. only problem is...for the left door i'm missing the plate with the holes in it...long shot but i don't suppose any moparfags here have one or live near a wrecking yard that has one?
just bought a mint 86 e150 from a customer. 302 efi, nine inch rear axle, and 4 speed aod. He had all of his work done on it in our shop. no fucking rust for ohio, because it lived most its life in virginia until 2018.
everything works, every door every electrical item, every light bulb
I did have to delete the inertia switch since it was really worn out and triggering just running down the road. could've replaced it but I just bypassed it altogether. Wired in a fuel pump kill switch for myself at the same time. Speaking of fuel pump, tomorrow I'm changing it and the fuel filter. Only thing fucked up thing on it is the fuel pumps all burnt up early. We replaced it 2 in 2023 for the guy, and he only put 3k miles on it since then. So it's just a defective pump and Napa will warranty it out np.
I can't get over how much I lucked out. Dude paid the final repair, replacing all rear brake lines, then sold it to me $500. Like I said we did all the work on this bad boy. He's spent 9 grand with us since 2018, and he's just an old dude "Ive got too many cars nowadays and Im old I just want to see it go to a good home"
I am a miser, I will cherish and run this thing until I fucking die. 132k on the clock, I'm gonna flip that odo at least twice in the next 40 years
>>28524823dodge magnums aren't classic
>>28525105>i'm missing the plate20 bucks says its wedged in the bottom corner, laying up against the door skin behind the window track.
>>28525702unfortunately not. that was the case for the right side, but i swear i actually saw it lying around somewhere and then forgot where i put it.
i spent 10 mins fishing around the bottom inside the door skin desperately hoping that i had just missed a spot but alas no. i think it somehow slipped through one of the drain slits.
the really sucky thing is that that plate itself doesn't have its own part number so i have to buy an entire unit, and unfortunately on ebay i couldn't see any cheap junked left hand units for sale (the plates are specific to right and left side units)
>>28526083Well you have one plate right?
Other is just mirrored?
Find a piece of scrap steel, $12 grinder from harbor freight and a drill bit and copy it.
Iโm kicking myself hard right now, was overthinking a ticking noise coming from the engine bay (was told the early fuel injectors often made a distinct tick) and didnโt even bother to check the oil. Knew I had a nasty lower intake manifold leak too. Finally the check oil light flipped this morning, checked the stick and while it had some left on it it wasnโt much. Threw some in and the sound basically disappeared. How fucked am I? Itโs a Ford 302, drove it for about 2 hours today no clear issues. I guess what Iโm asking is whether the tick that was happening basically guarantees engine damage or if the adding oil the moment the check oil light flipped mightโve spared me.
Good note is that the oil pressure sensor was going haywire for a while, and an inline aftermarket one was reading fine (60ish under load). So it was definitely getting circulation and still ticking.
>>28526760Also worth noting I had no overheating issues, no performance decreases, and now that the Iโve put roughly 2 quarts in the engine the oil pressure sensor is fine.
>>28526485hmm...actually yeah looking at it, the curved flanges aren't really needed, probably to keep shit out but otherwise not structural. Now to go dumpster diving in the scrap metal bin at work.
