Americans (Mexicans) make the same car, an Equinox for example weighs closer to 3500lbs and comes with a shitty 1.5L engine as well. It seems to be the current "meta" in compact cuckovers that are insanely popular for whatever reason.

I don't think so - the smaller Chevys are Korean (Daewoo) and literally built in Korea I think but anything compact and up is not - whereas I think Ford Escape/Bronco Sport/Maverick is all Mexican trash whereas the EXTENDED WHEELBASE luxury version of Ford Escape - Lincoln Nautilus - is actually built in China and the only American-sold car to be - unless Geely is slipping in Chinese built Volvos (who would really know).
