Your engine needs oil, keep topping off and change it all when the time comes. It also needs a rebuild.

if your engine oil keeps burning oil, you need to add coolant. Autozone has pre-mixed 50/50 coolant for like 9USD just top off your engine the next time you get gas.

If you drive a diesel and leaks are not visible but the oil just dissapears, then check if PVC Valve is clogged up, and also check EGR.
If it's not there, check Turbocharger, check all the piping, and check piston rings, and compression

Also, regarding directly to your question I'd recommend, oil changes every 10k KM, with all the filters, but other than that, after you top off your oil, check the distance you can do before dash light reagarding oil comes up, in my case it was 0.5l per 300KM, and PVC System was at fault

In theory if your oil leak is bad enough that you have to add oil every time you fill up on gas, then it probably isn't necessary to actually change all the oil in one go, at least not every single time you change the oil filter, but speaking of the oil filter, you're still going to need to change that.
