that grille with the chrome edge around and the bumper fascia was peak, that blue A3 in the pic is a 2007 model which doesn't move that much from the 2003 overhaul. The engines were good, interiors were good, the use of exterior plastic is kept to a minimum, they still run great, and don't cost a fortune to operate. That design was peak because it was the best of both worlds: exterior and performance.
