It's not really a shit box man, they're pretty solid as long as you get one of the v8s. The v6s had a lot of issues in the earlier cars. If you can afford to be picky, I might ask the sellers if they've had any issues with valve seating or lifters, and buy from whoever says they've addressed that already. Either way, hope you enjoy it

ehhhh this isn't exactly right

there were two v6s in the early LXs: the 2.8 and the 3.5, both holdovers from the LH cars so they were fucking ancient SOHC bricks even when the cars were new.
the 2.8 is a big pile of shit, it makes all of 190 hp and has a fatal flaw with its water pump that causes coolant to make its way into the oil over time. if you really baby and care for it it's a fine engine, but in like a sebring vert,, not in a 3800 lb charger or 300.

the 3.5HO is goated and practically immortal, it makes 250 crank which isn't far off what what the pre-eagle hemi was making either.

avoid 2.8 cars at all costs. 3.5V6s are fine, hemi is good too but it's the pringle so it might as well be a v6

Ah my bad, I must have only ever seen 2.8s since that's all customers had to bring in for fixing. Good to know

I wouldn't buy an old one like that, but a 2015 facelift model with the V8 and 8spd trans is not a shitbox at all

lol wut. Not at all. All that's different about the eagle hemi is vvt, the pringle still makes nearly 100 hp & 140 tq's over the 3.5. not to mention sounding infinitely better.

As others have said, as long as you avoid the 2.7 v6 and it's awful 4 spd transmission they are extremely reliable. They are fleet vehicles and cop cars after all and the 5.7 was originally a truck motor.

Those things have not aged well at all. At least look for a 300C if you can, those aren't nearly as fugly.

What are you talking about? Pre-eagle 5.7 hemis make 340-350hp, eagles make 370hp. That's 30 hp difference.
Are you thinking of the apache 6.4l?
The 6.1 in the lx's is a great motor too
